Jesus Rebukes Insincerity | CHRIST STERNLY DENOUNCES HYPOCRISY j Scripture?Luke 11:1b?12:3, HUMAN CAMPBELL WORDS of Christ which ajned to today's lesson ottered less than four before His death and ition. His disciples seem htve recognized the fact en after all the miracles d performed, and His if about repentance and essity of men to be born ind live righteous lives, fere still opposed to Him nld eventually bring about 1th. I Himself knew it and was d to suffer His sacrificial oid to rise again to prove t is the Saviour of man nd those that believe on til live everlastingly, twere some men and worn ?g in Palestine in Jesus' ho were possessed by evil These devils were sub Jesus and feared His Now we read that some Ided persons accused f being under the influence lebub, prince of devils, monstrous thing to say! w wicked minds suggest i who possess them! answered immediately, 'very kingdom divided itself is brought to deso wd a house divided against Beth." *n readily see how true single, thy whole body also Is full 1 of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body is full of darkness." j Our space is being limited, per haps I might interpret this say ing in a very simple way. There are people old and young, who seem to see only evil in the world. There are others who see it a< full of love and beauty. Jesus saw both evil and good. He rebuked the evil, but He loved and forgave repentant evil doers, tnd even in His agony on the cross He begged forgiveness for His tormentors. Why not teach the children to look for the good everywhere, making their eyes lamps to lighten burdens as Christ did when He was on earth? A Pharisee invited Christ to dine with him, and as Jesus sat at table, the Pharisee marvelled that He had not first washed His hands. This was a custom with the Jews who regarded them selves unclean if they brushed against Gentiles in the street or market. "And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness." Pharisees, he said, tithe ".mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over Judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to 1 have done, and not to leave the - ?? He commented that the Pharl* sees loved the best seats in the synagogues and the respectful greetings of folk in the markets and called them hypocrites, like graves that were not marked so that men walked over them un* aware. A lawyer said: "Master, thus saying. Thou reproachest us also." ! and Christ answered: "Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers." "Ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them," and Hfe referred to Zacha* rias who was slain in the temple, God, He said, would send prophets and apostles, "and some of them they shall slay and persecute." There are many fine points to! emphasize to the children in the words of Christ in this lesson. Teach them to be sincere with their playmates and all others; not to be all smiles to their faces and say hateful things about them behind their backs. The teacher will find many more examples of hypocrisy in their own expert* encta to impress on the young* sters. And, concerning the Pharisees, they were infuriated and planned more diligently to kill Him. C??ic 1 of P^ K-fd 1?y ti)? Whether we like the idea or not, it is most certainly true, and there..is nothing we can do about it. Nothing? That depends on what we mean. Assuredly we can do nothing to stop the sands of time from running through the hour glass of life, but we can do much to make those hours worthwhile, and the Church stands ever ready to help us. The Church is made up of people like us, working together to spread the message of the gospel. The Church brings comfort to those who sorrow, gives strength to those who are weak. The Church needs us to help carry on its work. When we are busy in the Church helping others, we do not worry over the ceaseless flow of the sands of time. Are you daing your part in the Church? Do you need its help? Its doors are open, its wel come unchanging. "The sands of time are sinking fast"?how are you spending the .days and hours? A few ^ jfl THE CHURCH FOR ALL . . . ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support.
