News Of WTHS

Barbara Griffith and Ddrothy Grasty
Last Friday night everyone en

the WTHS auditorium under the
direction of Charles Islcy and Rob-,
ert Campbell. All of the music de
partment contributed to the enter
tainment. The junior band, orches
tra, chorus, and the senior band
all presented a wonderful program,
rhe band played the music tipt
they will perform in the contest
this week in Greensboro. By the
way all the members of the band
are really getting excited about
their trip. They left today and will
return Sunday. The very best of
tuck to you!
Well, yesterday was the day! All
WTHS students received their re
port carls. Just think, there is only
pne more six-weeks period, just
one more time to get our report
cards and then graduation and
school is out.
The student body at WTHS heard
an interesting report from some
members of the Electronics De
partment in chapel. The instructor,
Y. F. Burgess, and four of his stu
dents, Richard Cagle, Jimmy Mann,
Tom Garrett, and Freddie Norris
gave reports on different phases
and opportunities of electronics.
I am sure we all agree that this is
a most interesting career for boys
who are interested.
Several members of our student
body participated in the county
F.H.A. rally. Myrtle ? Fitzgerald,
Barbara Ratcliff and Patsy Leathfer
wood were in a skit entitled "Pag
ing Mrs. Dollar". Betty Jo Cal
houn, Peggy Da\ is and Susie Clark
also attended the rally. Susie
Clark was installed as the new
county secretary. Mrs. Nesbitt,
Home Economics teacher at WTHS,
also attended.
Tuesday in chapel Miss Mozeley's
8th grade ono agair furnished the
onfopfainmnnt A nlatr />o1IaH "A I
Ghost of the Past" was presented.
Members of the cast were Stuart
Gibson. Dwight Green, Kenneth
Stahl, Bruce Alexander, and Paul
Davis. A chorus consisted of Bob
Evans. Phillip Chase, Tom Colter,
Tom Carver, Tom Walker, Eddie
Morgan. Harold Garwood, Harry
Liner and Paul Green sang several
numbers. Also presented was "Bor
rowing Neighbors" by a cast includ
ing Greta Birchfleld, Phyllis Leop
ard. Martha Boyd, Brenda Nichols,
and Betty Ruth Atkins. Rick Mc
Carroll was master of ceremonies.
Both plays were enjoyed very
much.
We would like to congratulate
Miss Leona Davis, a freshman at
WTHS, for winning first place in
the high school division in the
annual Haywood County spelling
bee.
