"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, its the manner of some is." (King James Version) l ? ? ? ? When Roger W. Babson made his statistical study of church attendance more than twenty years ago, he found that on a nationwide basis on an average Sun day in an average church about one-third of its mem bers would be present. A similar survey made in 1955 indicated some improvement, one-half of the church members of the country attending church on an aver ago Sunday. The habit of "absence from the house of Cod" be gan less than fifty years after the time of Christ, as the clause from the Epistle to the Hebrews indicates. But the habit of the Master stands as the perpetual rebuke of the absentees; for if ever there walked the earth one who might justly have said, "I can worship God Just as well without going to church," it was He. But, as St. Luke records it, going to the synagogue on the sabbath day was a habit with Jesus. Dr. James E. M Home for the HAoys..o Every Christmas time, we welcome back many Carolinians who have migrated to other areas of the coun try to seek their fortune. At Christ mas, more than at any other time, it means so much to be "home for the holidays." Home ... to be with the family for a short while. Home ... to visit old friends again. Homo ... to re-evaluate the home town. Now is the time for us to re-evaluate also, with a specific aim of keeping the present younger generation in the Carolinas and bringing those who have left . . . "hotaie" to stay. We are producing potential good citizens in Carolina schools, colleqes and universities. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, architects, engineers"" . . . the business and professional leadership which will mold our future. But, they are going away from the Carolinas to larger in comes . . . more opportunity. How can wo keep them here? Each person in each community can share the responsibility and the place to start is with a community cooperative effort . . . adequate mu nicipal facilities . . . well kept hous es .. . clean streets . . . churches . . . schools . .. parks .. good stores and most of all ... a progressive spirit . . . civic pride. Then we may attract new industry and business wnich will provide the opportunity our young people are looking lor . . . and bring the others "homo" to stay. helping'T? ?UIUTN^ (CAROLINA POWER & LIGHT COMPANY) ??
