At that time the Smiths had plenty of meat.' A neighbor had plenty of hens ' who would set but had no meat. So, Mrs. Smith swapped a piece of meat for a young hen. The hen had four biddies tweeting be hind her. Mrs. Smith soon began setting the hen. Floyd took a liking to the fowl and evidently the hen liked Floyd also. Each morning when he went to the corn crib at feed time the hen would jump from her nest and go to the crib door for her corn. After filling her craw she would set back on the nest for a long snooze at setting. Floyd fed the old hen the last time on April 5th, 12 years after he received her.
