G. Mann, gen eral manager 'of the N. C. Cotton Growers Cooperative Association, predicted that cotton prices will rise to 42 cents or more by next May 1. - , He based his forecast on size of the 1952 crop, growing condi tions, anticipated domestic and foreign demand, and carry-over from the 1951. season, all impor tant factors in influencing cotton prices.' Since 194S Mann has made a prediction each September 1 as to prices growers may expect to re ceive during the marketing season for their lint. In each year his prediction has been reached and in several years exceeded. On September 1, 1945, he fore cast 30-cent -cotton before the fol lowing June 1. . At the time of the prediction, cotton was sel'.ing at approximately 20 cents a pound. Those who held their cotton until later in the marketing year realii- HltcI I!cv;coniers Invited Toialr Newcomers to rural North Car. ollna during the past year will again be guests of the N. C. State Fair in 1952, says Robert W. Snof fner, assistant director of the State College. Extension Service. Free tickets eood for gate admission any one day of Fair Week October 14 18 will be sent to all who request them and who qualify as 'new farm ed 30 cents or more. Last year he predicted 40 'to 45 cents 'at a time when cotton was selling for around 35 cents. By March the price had risen to 40 cents, and at certain times during the season the market touched 45 cents. Mann is now urging growers to hold their newly-ginned cotton and wait for the, expected price in crease later In the season. 'The farmer who sells his cotton for 38 or 39 cents when there is every reason to believe the New York future market will reach 42 cents or more before late spring is simply throwing away hard-earned money,' he said. Facilities exist in every cotton county, Mann said, which allow the grower to get a loan on his cotton if Je needs the money at harvest time. Then the farmer :an wiait for more favorable prices before disposing of his crop. citizens.. w - , Shoffner, who Is assistant to Dr. J. S. Dortdn in the management of the Fair, stated that all members of a family who moved to a. North Carolina farm from another state or foreign country since October IS, 1991 are eligible to receive the complimentary tickets. The names of the 'rural newcomers' may be submitted by card or letter ' to: Manager N. C. We want to welcome these rural new comers to North Carolina, and what better way can It be done than to invite them to the Fair, the biggest event held annually anywhere in the.
