Bridge Club Mrs. S. A. Pope entertained the Beulaville Bridge Club Friday night of last week. There were three tables in progress. Mrs. William Carroll won high score for women, and high score for men went to Mr. A. L. Mercer. Miss Frances Mercer received a consolation prize. A delicious sweet course consist ing of strawberry short cake and coffee was served by Mrs. Fonnie Lanier and Mrs. Jack Jackson. Returns to Schools Sammy Pope, son of Dr. & Mrs. S. A. Pope and Dean Kennedy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kennedy returned to E. M. I. in Salemburg Sunday following a visit with their parents. Circles Meet Circle II of Presbyterian Women of the Hallsville Church will meet January 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the home of Mrs. Ralph Miller. Circle I will meet Saturday night, January 16 in the home of Mrs. Maurice Grady. New Home Ec. Coker's, Watson, Speight Tobacco Seed Plenty Tobacco Cloth Dowfume MC-2 F C X Open MODERN DRILLING SOLVES I TPV Jff 1 MODERN DRILLING SOLVES WATER PROBLEM A hugh sup ply of water was obtained for the State Sanatorium at McCain, in Hoke County, by the Heater Well Company of Raleigh from three wells drilled with the gravel-blasting method which opens under ground water-bearing formations. This picture shows water pouring from one of the three wells at the rate of 950 gallons per minute. Total output of the three wells is over 2,000 gallons per minute, or nearly 3,000,000 gallons of water every 24 hours, enough to supply the normal needs of a city the size of Burling ton. The three wells saved $190,000 for the State, which originally plan ned an expensive water system based on a creek-fed lake the state intended to construct. Mr. and Mrs. R. C.
