In 1858, the mill owner, waa found dead near the shingle wheel. The corpse, was balanced across a railing near the wheel. - An iron bar was standings against the rail ing as, though it had been put there after being used. HERMAN TBUEBLOOD TEXT: "Casting all your car upon him; for he careth for you." 1 Peter 5:7. m , 1 , t . t God is not a tyrant He is all-powerful, omnipotent, and eternal, he is a righteous Judge who shall hold us all accountable for "the deeds done in the body;" but he is not a stern, cold-blooded, unsympathetic creator and ruler of mankind The Bible pictures God as lust, merciful, and of "tener compassion" "God it love." Our heavenly Father has "numbered the very hairs ct your head He takes notice of even the tiny sparrow that falls." Our God is a God of TENDER CARE The Bible contains many illustrations and symbols of His Tender Care Observe. 1. THE SYMBOL OF A MOTHER'S COMFORT. "As one whom his mother comfort eth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem." Isaiah 66:13. How comforting a true mother can be; but how much more comforting can- God's tender love be. 2. THE SYMBOL OF A FATHER'S PITY. "Like a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him" Psalm 103:13. An earthly father's concern fo his children is natural in the oase of every true father; our heavenly Father's concern is of eternal concern. 8. THE SYMBOL OF A SHEPHERD'S PROTECTING CARE. "As a shepherd seeketh out his flock In the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I eck out my sheep, and deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day." Ezekiel 34:12. 4. , THE SYMBOL OF A NURSE'S TENDER CARE. What a Christ like service is that rendered by tympathetic, gentle. Inspiring nurses. God is pictured to us as being like unto a nurse ready and eager to soothe our aches and pains. "But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children." I Thes. 3:7. 5. THE SYMBOL OF A HEN'S MOTHERLY INSTINCT. "I have gathered thy children together as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings." Matt. 23:37. 6. THE SYMBOL OF THE TLUTTERING EAGLE. "As an eagle stir reth up her nest fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings so the Lord alone did lead him, and there waa no strange God with him." Deut. 32:11-12. 7. THE SYMBOL OF A BRIDEGROOM. "As a young man mar rieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee; and as the bridegroom re joiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee." Bushing over -with lanterns and flashlights, the horri fied guests saw two very frightened oeonls betas nulled toward the wall by that dowsing rod a long white arm holding firmly oh the tip. The sooner the. samples' go in the sooner the soil report can be received. An increasing num ber of farmers are sending in their samples earlier each year. "So reports are an excellent guide to follow In the efficient use of lime and fertiliser for crop production," say County Agent F. J. Koonce, Jr. However, It is necessary that soil re ports be Interpreted properly snd adjustments made to take care of special situations. A farmers ex perience with his soil is of great help in interpreting soil test report information. Both the soil test re port Information and the farmer's experience are needed in oraer to plan a sound fertilization program. 01 Photographs Restored Portraits Commercial Photography Weddings, Parties, Anniversaries and Identification Photos LANIER STUDIO Phone 6341 At Wallace Sittings Nlghta and Sundays By Appointment Guaranteed Watch Repairing WATCHES BULOVA A ELGIN TURNER JEWELRY Warsaw, N. Christian Orb Leaaoa far Jaataary tX, J95i HOW can we tell whether a per son is a Christian or not? Is there anything that marks all ChristiansT There is faith, of course; but only God can see faith itself. Jesus said: "By their frutte ye shall know them." .What' kind of "fruits" should we look for. in others and in our selves, to sea whether we are ChristiansT Only God is the final Judge. We should not be too quick to say brashly, "I know . . ." Better say, "I have good reason to believe . . ." So. what Dr reremaa are the good reasons for believ ing that a person is a Christian? Sticking to our one chapter in Luke for this week, we can take note of three marks of a Chris-, tian, that is, of Jesus' followers, those who take his word as in order. They sound quite simple and ordinary; what is, extraordin ary, what is specially Christian about them, is the thoroughgoing quality Jesus expects. Htlplulnsw . Three marks which we can read ily 'see suggested, in this chapter of sayings of our Lord, are: .Help fulness, humility, and honesty. Everyday qualities, aren't they? In fact, you can't get along with out them In the civilized world. Nobody likes a man who brags all the time. Nobody likes a man who never lends a hand to anybody in trouble. Nobody likes a man who can't be trusted.- Helpfulness, hu mility and honesty are not In' themselves specially Christian at titudes. Jesus certainly did not in vent these qualities. They are found among people of many re ligions and of no religion. 'What Jesus did was to demand an ex traordinary high degree of these everyday virtues. First, as to helpfulness: Not only in the words' quoted in Luke 14 but in many other ways and places, Jfesus em phasizes how far his friends are expected to go. Most people are willing to help others, if it isn't bothersome or expensive. Jesus' idea of helpfulness was of some thing quite costly, something that calls for effort, self-sacrifice. Help fulness as he sees it is not just doing something for somebody who will do as much for you. It means doing for people who never can pay you back. You can't be sure you are helpful as Christ was unless you are willing, as he was, to put out more for others than you are going to get back. Humility ) We all expect humility from other people, and we even practice it ourselves, in the form of cour tesy. For courtesy is . a form of humility, "After you!" "Please," "Thank you," "Pardon me," and the like, are humble expressions, when you come to think of it. But Jesus expects His disciples to be humble and not just to talk hum ble. Are you a Christian at this point? A few questions are in order, to ask yourself. Am I al ways thinking that other people don't appreciate me? Am I a lit tle sore because I don't get the promotions I deserve? When I say, "What's he got that I haven't got?" Do I feel a little peevish, as if the answer I expect is "Noth ing"? Have I often been able to forget my own interests en be half of others? One of the most striking stories about Jesus is told by John, who records that Jesus.' "knowing he came from God and was going to God," took a towel and did the "menial" service that every one of his disciples was too. proud to do. The highest is the humblest PI i Honisty j Everybody knows that honesty is a good policy. But one mark of a Christian is that he wOl be honest at two points where (strangely enough) most people are least honest: that is, with himself and with God. The par- . ables about counting the cost are really about the importance of facing the facts, admitting to yourself where you come short. Human capacity for self-deception is astounding. Why a man takes himself for a sucker, in other words, is something hard to un derstand. But it is even more amazing that men will think they can "get by" with God. Those ex cuses made by the unwilling guests, in Jesus' parable, did they feel their host? Excuses of fered to God are worse than waste of time. iBaas aa aatllnaa eTrlfhUS fey Ik iTlaUa at Ckrlstlaa EaacaUaa. Na Uaaal Caancll at the Ckarshaa al Chrlat ' tat tka U S. A.
