with his parents, the Rev. and Mrs.
R. E Scarlett of Hillsboro.
Lt. Scarlett has been hi the Air
Force four and one-half years. Dur
ing this time, he has had various
stateside assignments, and present
ly has just completed an IB month
tour of duty in Tripoli, Libya, where
he was assigned to ,A F-S6D All Wea
ther Fighter Interceptor Squadron.
He was scheduled to leave for his
next assignment, in Sacramento.

On Honor Roll
Miss Patsy Kenyon, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mason Kenyon
of Route 2, Hillsboro, has been
named on the academic honor roll
at Mars Hill College for the first
semester by Dean Ralph M. Lee.
A 1956 graduate of Hillsboro High'
School, Miss Kenyon is a sophomore
at the 102-year old Baptist junior
college and is studying elementary
education. She is assistant chief of
the college marshals ,a position ac
corded only to honor studeAts. *

Wildcats Lose j
To Southern
By One Point
In the last six minutes Ken Stal
lings of Southern High scored six
quick points and enabled Southern's
Rebels to edge Hillsboro High Wild
cats 42-41, in a District Three thril
ler at Durham Tuesday night.
Southern managed aq 11-7 lead at
the end of the first period, but Hills
boro went ahead, 21-19, at the half
time. From the time the Wildcats
took a 15-13 lead until there were
only five minutes left in the contest,
Hillsboro was out front.
The Wildcats had a 10-point lead
in the third stanza, before Southern
was able to whittle it down to six
points, 33-27 at the end of the period.
But then with Tom mith and Stal
lings leading the way, the Rebels
pulled the game out of the fire.
Thurston Yates fouled out with
six minutes to go, and Coach Jim
Blake sent Stallings into the Rebel
lineup. The sophomore scored a
field goal and four quick free throws
to narrow the Wildcats'^ lead to two
points. > *
Then Larry Ferrell followed with
a field goal that tied the count at
41-41 with just 24 seconds showing
on the clock. Smith tossed in a
?ame winning free throw.

The win gave Southern a record
of nine wins and four losses in the
conference, and Hillsboro is now
tied with Northern with a 5-8 mark.
The preliminary game was Just as
close, with Hillsboros frosh winning
by a 30-29 count.
