C., THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 1960 " ' . ’ M PACES ; l-' I# HIS KEEPERS OUT AT Hogan's Lake assure there’s ®o truth to the rumor that Rameses has been stolen by Duke students. Carolina’s ram mascot is content* edly and confUently grazing in his accustomed pasture, the Hogans declare, all set for Saturday’s upset victory over the Blue De vils. ORANGE COUNTY REP. JOHN Umstead, a long-time trustee of the University, is laying low for tile time being as to his opinion on the Board of Higher Educa tion’s recommended reductions of UNC budget requests. But the vet eran legislator will say flatly that he thinks the percentage of cuts the Board is proposing is too high. —Look for sparks to fly on the Assembly floor when Rep. Unjstead discusses this appropri ation in the Legislature. HAROLD LUSK, JR. UNC SEN ior from Charlotte, is the student who punched his way into a con troversial .hometown hall of fame by allegedly socking referee Sid Hughes of Norfolk right after the end of last Saturday’s Carolina Maryland game. Assault charges are pending against Lusk in the local Recorder’s Court. While Lusk said this week he didn’t re member throwing the famous punch, some law enforcement of ficers said they were eye wit nesses. The defendant was nurs ing a thick lip Saturday night. Who gave it to him? Divided opin ion on that, too. BIG PERENNIAL PROBLEM of Community Chest solicitors ev ery year is duplication of effort. ►Borne persons are solicited and give at home' some at work, and some both. During the recent campaign one resident told a Chest official she'd been hit sew en times. The Chest folks checked and were able to document five instances. Actually, they noted, duplication of solicitation isn't nearly as great a problem as in sufficient coverage. SEVEN-YEAR-OLD JEANETTE Martin of Highway 70-A just east of Mebane is still in Memorial Hospital with very serious injuries sustained when she was struck by a car as she got off a school bus in front of her house at 4 p.m last Thursday. Investigating High way Patrolman E. S. Robinson said that Jack Rudder, about 50, of Route Two, Hillsboro, has been charged with passing a stopped school bus, in connection with the accident. Rudder told tlie officer he didn’t see the stopped, bus. His auto skidded about 75 feet down the highway and knocked the lit tle girl almost that far. According to the patrolman there was ade quate visibility on the road at that time, the stop sign on the bus was projecting, and the bus light flasher working.
