Curriculum for new Orange high school is approved ,3. me urange county Board of Education has approved a pro posed curriculum for the new Orange High School, Senior and Junior, including German as a third foreign language, along with plans for a two-course pro gram. Under the two-course program, students would elect as early as the eighth grade whether they would pursue the academic or college preparatory route to a diploma or a general, or business, track. Both courses would require 18 units for graduation beginning with high school beginners next year. The new curriculum is the re sult of recent studies by citizens committees planning for the new school to be built on the 100-acre tract north of Hillsboro and the plans of the Board of Education for enriching the local school program. The academic or college pre paratory course requires four units of English, three of social I -' i studies, (U. S. History, World His tory and 1 other); three in Math ematics (Algebra 1 & 2 and Ge ometry); three in Science (Gen eral Science, Biology and 1 oth er); two in Foreign Language (Latin 1 & 2, or French 1 & 2); Physical Education 1 unit; and Electives 2 units. The general or business course will require four units of Eng lish, three or social studies (American History and two oth ers); Mathematics 2 unifs; Sci ence (Biology and 1 other); Phy sical Education 1 unit; commer cial subjects 6 units. The Junior High curriculum in cludes a wide range of electives including remedial reading, me 1 chanical drawing in one of the Industrial Arts courses as well as ; French, Spanish and German in | addition to I^atin. \ The new Senior High curricu lum will be instituted as the in terests of the student body jus tify and qualified staff can be se cured. ' It includes some 20 cours es for each grade, including such , new offerings as creative writ i ing. speech and drama, indus trial arts, consumer music, li brary science, etc. WOMBLE REUNION SET The descendants of Joel Gra ham and Louisa Bland Womble will have their annual reunion at | the home of Mr. and Mrs. Shir ley Ladd in Plantation Acres near Carrboro for luncheon on Sun day, May 28.
