Barnes A Cyrus A Greene i y Assistants Area Development Tour June 20 Plans have been completed £er the North Central Areg De velopment Tour of the three counties to fee held Wednesday afternoon, June 20. The assem bly point will foe Northern High School on Highway 501, eight miles north of Durham. Those attending from Orange County -might want to go down the St. M&ry’s-Mason Road to 501 and turn right on 501 for twb miles.. The tour starts at 2:00 p. m. lAt 2:15 we will arrive at the diversified farm of Paul and Blayne Burmahl, These two young men have made a success of feeder pig production and lay ; ens. Feeder Pigs Good Bet Several local feeder pig pro ducers report -that they have sold the most feeder pigs this year .and received the highest VA completes survey; T 479,000 veterans now living in N.C. The latest survey made by tbe Veterans Administration shows there are 479,000 war vet erans now living in North Car olina, according to J. ©. DeRa mus, —manager of the Veterans Regional Office. Quite a' few producers have in creased the size of their brood sow herd. Several new producers have started herds of from six to 25 sows. There is still room for more expansion of feeder pig production in Orange Coun ty. This enterprise should be given serious consideration by many other persons whose farm income is limited. Information about feeder pig production can be obtained at the County Ag ent’s office. | Geralene Murray wins Elon speech contest Miss Geraleae Murray, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Mur ray of Route One, Hillsboro, won the annual speech contest at Elon" College on May W. The topic of her speech was "American Education Should Equip Johnny For Reality." Miss Murray was presented a trophy by the Sigma Phi Beta Fraternity, The judges were Miss Nancy Withers, Professor of English, Dudley Ray Watson, Assistant Professor of Business Adminis tration; Jennings Berry, Jr., Reg I istrar; Robert Baxter, Director of Development and Nabil Wakim Abu-Aitah, last year’s winner.
