Association of County Commis sioners at that group’s annual convention in Morehead City. At the same time County Adminis trator Saim Gattis was chosen to head the newly-organized associa tion of administrators. ' UN-OFFICIAL WORD FROM the Chapel Hill Housing Author ity yesterday was that Chairman Dr. Sidney Chipman had agreed to withdraw- his resignation for the tune being, as requested unanimously by the Chaipel Hill aldermen last iFriday. However Authority memibers Bill Hobbs and Bill Cherry reported their resignations would stand. Mayor Sandy McClamroch said he would not immediately appoint replace ments for the two on the five member Board. Meantime reports from the Atlanta regional office of the Home and Housing Fi nance Agency revealed final ap proval of the controversial Go mains Ave. site for part of a 60 unit public housing project. This was not withstanding the formal protest to the site entered in Washington last week by a local Negro group. Layout {dans for the newly-annexed Gomains Ave. site are thus proceeding. THE COUNTY S C H O OL Board is considering naming the new elementary school soon to be built near Central High in Hillsborough for A. L. Stand back, long-time Principal of Cen tral, who died recently. - The County School System, by the way now stands seven among I county systems in the state in the number of extra teachers J hired from local funds. Orange is - similarly in seventh place in the state in the amount of its annual per capita appropriation — last year $42 per pupil.
