To this end it behooves everybody to co-operate with the ladies in making "cleaning-up" day tomorrow a success. Clean up all the rubbish cn your premises and put in boxes or barrels early tomorrow and it will be removed by the city free of charge. Cleanliness is one of the requisites for healthfulness and for this reason, if for no other, there should not be a box full of rubbish left on private premises by tomor row night. I-t's all do our duty. The city courts could not do bet ter than to follow vigorously the trial of the tiger and the hand-out-club, each of which seems to be do ing business very extensively in Concord just now. The so-called social club is nothing les3 than a fraud on its face and the fact that this seems such profitable field for operation is more or less a reflec tion on us as a community. The law never intended to say that a man, or a few men, could get a charter, put' in a cook stove and beer room and sail forth under the guise of a social club and enjoy the privileges granted to a strictly social club. In the great majority of cases these are no more than a shield for illegal selling of whiskey and beer in disregard of the law and the sen timent back of the law. Some of these clubs have proven their char acter instantly. Some of them bave proven pest holes pure and simple witout the slightest resemblance to lawful concerns. The motive is nothing worthy of consideration and It Wasn't His Fire. Kansas City Journal. There was a fire in an Osborne hotel on a recent Sunday. The Are company, whose chief is foreman of the Farmer office, did valiant serv ice saving, and at the same time soaking everything in sight. No one was Injured, which is the most surprising part of it to the man who discovered the fire. He was enjoy ing his Sunday splash in the bath when flames began to trickle through the floor and feel around for something to play with. With great presence of mind and absence of raiment, the guest hastily remov ed himself. To an old man he met n the hall he broke the news softly, lest a panic be started. ' The hotel s on fire," he whispered. The venera ble gentleman yawned. "Well, if it is," he replied, "why in blazes don't you holler?" Total $476,522.16 LIABILITIES.
