We hope all of our gubscribers wHl read the sermon on honesty In today's Issue. It has special refer ence to debt paying and there is no greater mill-stone that one ran have around his neck than debt. This ar ticle contains some great truths put Into original and vigorous language. It Is well worth the 'little line that will be consumed in the reading. Teddy turned the tables on the old guard and defeated all the well laid schemes of the Sherman faction la the New York State Republican convention. He still holds the whip band in his party but if he shall be that party's nominee for the presi dency two years hence, as now eems most probable, we believe he will meet such a defeat as will for ever put him out of the political Arena. The next President wHl, we firmly believe, be a Democrat. The Gazette is indebted to the Corporation Commission for a copy of the eleventh annual report of the commission, just issued. It is a book of 700 pages and is full of facts. A few of the more Important features are the following, viz: A compilation of the laws governing, and the rules of practice of. the Corporation Commission; a compil ation of State banking laws; freight tariffs effective on all North Caro lina railroads; the commission's classification of freight, applicable to all railroads on lntra-State traf fic; storage and demurrage rules; local transfer and switching charges; express classification and tariff; di gest of decisions and complaints; complete detailed statement of as sessment for taxation of the proper ty of all railroad and other public service corporations and of the cap ital stock valuation of banks and all Industrial corporations In the State; complete financial and statistical re ports from all railroad companies operating in the State, etc. THE MSW WHO MONEY IN MARSHALL FIELD clerked in a store when he was a boy. The opening days were Wednesday and yesterday and a large number of ladles were present to Inspect and admire the pretty things provided for the fall and winter season In the headwear line. MYERS & TATE. The new firm of Myers & Tate had their millinery opening last Frl rtv and Saturday on which day ,inv. lartlpa visited their store. Mrs S. S. Pittnian. who la in charge spent some weeks In Baltimore Just before the opening of the season and Is thoroughly posted on all the new styles, shapes and colors. Among the many pretty hats seen here are these: A black beaver picture hat trim med with willow plumes and Jet ca bashon; a kismet shape made of fel with Pocahontas wing and Persian trimmings; a new Charlotte shape, a small hat. trimmed with pheasan quills and Persian cabashon; an am ber beaver in large shape trimmed with plumes and amber cloth drap ings touched up with Persian. These are only a few of the many attract ive hats seen at Myers & Tate's. LEBOVITZ DEPARTMENT STORE At this store the reporter was shown a number of pretty hats among which were noted the follow Ing: A very large beaver shape in black with weeping willow plumes and cut Jet ornaments; a crush tur ban of green velvet with draped crown and grapes at the side; mushroom shape In the beaver with bird of paradise feathers, gold cord trimming and velvet binding; anoth er mushroom shape with dent front in garnet, satin crown, wings and aigrette. This department Is under the supervision this season of Miss Emma Bull, of Richmond, Va., who Is assisted by Misses Edna Craig and Georgia Hopper. The department is on the second floor of the temporary quarters occupied by this firm. They expect to be in their handsome new two-story building by the latter part of October. ornaments; a turban shape of alpine gray with large wings and orna ments; a large white beaver in mushroom shape with gold band and lace and gold flowers; a large black hat with pink chiffon facing and white wHIow plumes. Miss Ayers, who has been in charge of Thomson's millinery de partment for several seasons, is as sisted this year by Mrs. Wiley Han na, Mrs. Cynthia Johnson, Miss Geor gia Smith, Miss Mary Hlldebrand, Miss Ella Rankin and Miss Essie Lindsay. The Demorest Comedy Company will be at the opera house every night next week at popular prices, ten, twenty and thirty cents. This company has been here often before and always draws good houses. A large New York Bank has commended the attractive line of ad vertising which the First National Bank of Gastonia is running in the columns of The Gazette regularly. See page four. About the prettiest thing In the furniture line you've seen in many a day is the Birds-Eye Maple and Mahogany sets which the Gastonia Furniture Company now has on dis play. Read their adv. Jenkins, receiver of the Whetstone and Vermont Cotton Mills, announces in our legal adver tising department on page three that he will sell evidences of indebted ness to the two corporations on Oc tober 11th. Armstrong has an adv. on page six again calling the attention of the public to the fact that beginning tomorrow he will sell out the stock of the Williams Fur niture Company regardless of cost. There will be real bargains in furni ture as long as the stock lasts.
