The records are perfectly clear to them as to the number of men who have enlisted in the Gaston county National Guard organisations from Cherryvllle town ship. There can be no argument on that score. -Instead of trying to stir up strife between the two towns over what was said by two men who are giving their lives to their country, and who only stated the truth, it would have been much better, it seems, had an effort been made to help these men enlist the young men who are going to be drafted within the next few days because they did not volunteer. The Gazette believes that the ma jority of the people of Cherryvllle are in sympathy with the National Guard officers of their county organizations. CLEVELAND BOASTS 4Z DIFFERENT LANGUAGES. Governors Alexander, of Idaho, and Listor, of Uashlngton, will confer over the I. W. W . menace. All rail roads and passes into Washington are guarded to prevent agitators from entering the State. Industries in many parts of the Northwest are paralyzed, the workmen being ter rorized by 1. V. W. members. The Americanism of Hoover. New York World. ' ' ' ' l' Senator fteed, of Missouri-Who pretends to think that President Wli son is "outkalseflng the Kaiser and out-Ceasaring Caesar," because the administration has asked for power to prevent the food gamblers from, starving the American people.' Is al so attacking Herbert C. Hoover as lacking "sympathy with American ideals and principles." Mr. Hoover is one of the most em inent of American mining engineers. He gave up an income of 1150,000 a year to administer the relief work in Belgium. 'He not oaly worked for nothing but he even paid out of his own pocket the rent of the house :n Brussels occupied by the relief com mission. His assistants served with out pay, too, and every penny that was contributed for Belgian ' relief went for Belgian relief. In Washington Mr. Hoover is a gain working for nothing and paying his own expenses. His assistants are again serving without pay. All tiie great work that he has undertaken is a voluntary contribution on his part to the American people. He has asked for nothing except the op portunity to put his great adminis trative abilities and his unique expe rience in food control at the service of his fellow countrymen to help them win the war. To Senator Reed this shows a "lack of sympathy with American ideals and principles." Hoover Is working for nothing when he might be getting rich out of the war.' He has given his time and talents to the Government and the people wnen with his intimate knowledge of food markets and food operations he might be cornering necessaries of life and gouging the poor and the desti tute. Hoover isthe kind of Ameri can who helps in war and not the kind who profits. James A. Reed, of Missouri, Senator in Congress of tne United States, therefore doubts Her bert C. Hoover's Americanism, which is a sufficient commentary on the Americanism and the brains o James A. Reed, of Missouri. A military training camp with 30,00( men in It is not to be picked up Just any day. How Fayetteville is feel Ing is another question. The question of a sufficient water supply for 30,000 soldiers didn't worry Charlotte in the least, She knew that, if her supply should get low at anytime, all she has to do is ' to shoot a few trains of tank cars to Gastonla and get them filled prompt ly ,wlth the best Long Creek Lithia as she did once upon a time. We till have an abundance of the best , water in the State. If you need help. Charlotte, Just have Brother Wade Harris to whistle. ' One thing engaging the minds of the heads of business firms, and one that Just now It is well for them to .begin to consider, lest it will be too late for proper consideration, is how to till the peaces of the young men who will be drafted into the new army. Some are planning to fill these vacancies with ladies and others with boys too young and with men who have passed the drafting age Many firms have conceive of the plan of having the boys serve as ap prentices now that they will be ready to' fill In at any time. The Gazette of Monday will be worthy or .being permanently preserved for the sake of this feature. WAS NOT MISREPRESENTED. The Gazette regrets that there was one man in Cherryville who took exception to what the command ing officers of the National Guard organizations, at this place, had to say with reference to the number of men. Cherryville township had fur nished to their companies, and which .appeared in this paper some time ago. 'The impression was expected to be left by the Cherryville corres pondence of The Charlotte Observer that Cherryville township was being persecuted. Such, however, was not the case and any, attempt to magniry that. Impression was certainly doing the county no good. It Is known that Cherryvllle has furnished men to the regular army, mention of which' has been made heretofore.- But the officers in this Chamberlain's Colic and Diarrhoea Remedy, - Now is the time to buy a bottle of this remedy so as to be prepared in case that any one of your family shmild hnvo an Bttark nt fnlli1 nr A- arrhoea during the summer months, i It is worth a hundred times Its cost when seeded. f .' "SERVE-SELF" HA RBER SHOP IN OPERATION. (By International News Service.) CLEVELAND, O., July 12. The serve-self idea has spread to the bar ber shop and members of the Cham ber of Commerce who have for years tolerated solicitous barbers, wiio would have you spend a dollar for shave extras, are happy. He Just walks in. selects his own style of razor, face lotion, etc., and does the work him self. There isn't much difference in the price, but the patron gets it over with quicker and Steverding says most of them like it better. PLEASED WITH FAIR. Doing Good. Jantzen, Delmeny, Sask., says of it, "I have used Chamberlain's Colic and Diar rhoea Remedy myself and in my fam ily, and can recommend it as being an -exceptionally fine preparation." Mr. Hutt, of Raleigh, Surprised at What Has Been Accomplished in Carton in Two Years Probably Re Put in District Fair Class. Mr. J. M. Holland, executive sec retary of the Gaston County Fair, re turned from Raleigh Monday night, where he had gone for the purpose of holding a conference with Mr. W. N. Hutt, chairman of the fair com mittee of North Carolina. Many phases of this fair work were dis cussed with Mr. Hutt, who is an au thority on county fajrs. Mr. Hutt expressed his surprise at the tremen dous success of the 1916 fair as in dicated by the attendance and the number of exhibits. He was exceed ingly complimentary in his approval of the thoroughness ot the plans now being used for the 1917 fair. It will be of much interest to the entire citizenship of the county tp know that after many questions by Mr. Hutt he advised Mr. Holland that in view of the success of the 1916 fair and the apparent success of the coming fair, the Gaston Coun ty Fair deserves to be classed as a district fair. This will come up at the regular meeting of the fair com mlttee this fall and that this recog nition will be accorded the Gaston County Fair is practically assured This will place the Gaston County Fair second to none in official stand ing in North Carolina.
