PACI TWO. THX GASTONIA. GAZETTE WEDI7ESDAT, riOVEMEZn 26, I91K- The Gastonia Gazette WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 1919. CHILDREN'S DAY OBSERVED BY FIRST A. R. P. CHURCH. Interesting Services Held Sunday, When Many of the Young People Exhibited Results of Splendid Training Prires Awarded Cradle Roll CaUed. (Reported for The Daily Gazette.) lnMeail of the usual II o 'clock serbe at the Associate Reformed Presbyterian church Sabbath, exercises in connection with the observing of Children Day were held. These exercises were under tbe auspices of the primary and interme diate department of the Sabbath school, of which Mrs. A. F. Whitesides is the efficient superintendent. Mrs. Whitesides presided and the following program was rendered : First, a souk. "To the Hills I Lift Mine Eyes, " by the entire school. This was followed ly Scripture reading, the 96th Ps. liy Mrs. Klmer Spencer. asist tnt superintendent of primary depart ynent. After prayer ly l'rof. liner the beuinners and primaries very i-ueetly san, "Com?. Ye Children." Then fol lowed on of the most interesting parts of the program, the presentation "t' the cradle roll certificates to the 'JT or L's babies on this roll. One little fellow, B. W. Kdwards. Jr., arrived just in time the night before to have his name enroll ed and ivns gladly welcomed into the cir cle. Quite a number of the mothers were present with their babies and it w:is an inspiring scene to see these little ones thus early in life enlisted by their par ents in the service of the Master. As the names were called. Miss Ida Pursley, in the absence of the cradle roll superin tendent, Mrs. .1. White Ware, handed the certificates to Messrs. Roger Wilson and Palmer Moore, who presented them to the little owners. Next was a concert recitation of the I21st Psalm by first and second year Juniors. The perfect recitation revealed splendid memory work ami training. The singing of the Shepherd Song, the 23rd Ps., by a group of girls, each carry ing a white shepherd's crook was very im pressive. Miss Martha Whitesides play ed the piano accompaniment. The third and fourth year Juniors re cited perfectly in concert recitation the Ten Commandments. While these little ones do not now fully realize the depths of truth and foundation principle em bodied in this Decalogue, yet in years to come this knowledge may prove to be a bulwark of defense in time of temptation i and trial. Miss Lorine Sloan, teacher of expres nion ami English at Linwood College, very impressively recited, "The Hreat Guest Came," by Mnrkham. Not only J;he children, for whom it was specially recited, but the entire audience enjoyed j Miss Sloan s splendid ister;ret;ttin ot the thought in the mind of the author. The next on the program was to have been a "talk to the children" by Dr. Galloway, but to the sincere regret of ev ery one, Dr. Galloway was unable to be present on account of sicklies-. He had expressed a special de-ire to be present at this service, but we hope for him a speedy recovery. "Our Guardian Angel." No. 7:' in Bible Songs, was sung by the school. Prof, Grier then made an address to the parents on "The Relationship of Parents to the Primary Sabbath Sen,...!." After a word to the children Prof Ctier in an earnest idea to the parents, urged Upon them the necessity and impor'am- of Chestnut 8treet, due South 63 1-2 leet 8th day of Norember, 1919. from Torrence 's (formerly Lynn'.)
