PAGE FIVE " -f Socials-Personal Items j AUXILIARY TO MEET The regular monthly meeting of the Woman's Auxiliary ot the Rae ford Presbyterian church will meet Monday, October 15 -at 3:30 o'clock in the Ladies parlor. HART-ROBERTSON VOWS Mr. and Mrs. John P. Robertson of Purvis announce the marriage of their daughter, Pauline Knight, to Eugene Braxton Hart, Jr., of Row land. The wedding ceremony was performed by the Rev. P. E. Cook in the First Methodist church, Dil lon, S. C, on Sunday, October 7th. The double ring ceremony was per formed with only close friends and relatives present. The couple will be si home at Rowland, route one. The groom and his parents formerly lived in Raeford. HARRIS-SUDDRETH Miss Katherine Suddreth became the bride of James David Harris, Jr., on Saturday, October 6th in a ceremony performed at Bennettsville, S. C. Mrs. Harris was formely em ployed at Reaves Drug store and made her home here with her sister, Mrs. Lacy Scarborough. Mr. Harris is from Union, S. McKeithan, who is a patient at Hlghsmlfh hospital, Fay etteville, is somewhat improved. Mrs. Paul Dickson, Sr., has been a patient at Highsmith hospital in Fayetteville since last Sunday. She was doing well according to last reports yesterday. LUMBERTON. Oct. 10. The Lum berton tobacco market has closed for the season with a total of 32,000, 000 pounds sold since the opening on August 1. A little more than $14,000,000 was paid out to farmers for the tobacco that went over the Lumberton auction floors. When final figures are in it is be lieved that Lumberton will have held its position as that of the tenth ranking flue-cured tobacco market in the nation in pounds sold. Seven ty-seven markets handle the flue- cured tobacco of the live states of the southeast producing this type of weed. Announcement has been made to the eftect that this is the last year the Lumberton market will be supervised by Jasper C. Hutto, he having resigned from that post, ef fective as of January 1, to devote his full time to the office of exe cutive secretary of the Lumberton Chamber of Commerce and Agricul ture. For the last several years he has been dividing his time between the two places. R. C. Shaw and respected colored wo man of Raeford, died in Highsmith's hospital Sunday, September 10th, following an illness of three months. She was 66 years old and served as a faithful member of Freedom Chap el A. M. E. Zion church for many years. She is survived by her husband, four sons, four daughters, twenty- two grandchildren and 5 great grand children. Funeral services were conducted at Silver Grove by the Rev. W. T. Fairley of Red Springs and burial followed in the cemetery.
