Jack arfe pretty well distri buted in the streams and lakes of the Coastal Plain. , Crappie, which are found principally in lakes and only in larger streams, are-dfi^ributed, however, through out the State. Both black crappie, which are native to the lower Coastal Plain, and white crappie, and outsider, ind suitable waters in Norfh Carolina. The black crappie, which favor clear which started at the first of the month are on the gloomy side. Theme of this year’s observance will be relationship between the wise use of soil, water, and plant life and the national security. Programs poin ted to the observance will place special emphasis on the need for greater protection and manage ment to insure adequate sup plies of fish and game to meet the vastly increased hunting and fishing pressure brought en with the close of the _ war, Each year the Federatioa, a nonHproit organization, issues a sheet of wildlife poster stamps repi'oduced from- paintings by famous American nature artists. The.!947 issue has 40 studies of birds, mammals, fish, flowers, and trees in the 64 stamps on the sheet. Since these stamps were first distributed, there have been reproduced 394 separate nature studies which go into making “a miniature outdoor picture gallery] in true colors. Fines levied in February cases totalled $2,296.60, and court costs $1,030. Out of season hunters were the] big game for pilotecta(rs last month, 71 violators being brought I into court on this charge. Next high on the list of charges was hunting without license, which] accounted for 32 cases.
