LITERATURE CLUB MEETS WITH MRS. ROBERTS - RAEFORD NATIVE ' APPEARS IN CONCERT IN CHARLOTTE MRS. MANN CLUBHOST^S On Tuesday evening of this 'week the Liiterature Department of the Raeford Woman’s club met at the home of Mrs. W. W. Eob- >erts, with Miss Mayme McKeitJi- an and Mrs. W. J. Coates seizing as assistant hostesses. Mrs. Rob erts’ home was attractively deco rated with dahlias, roses and ot- 'her fall flowers. Mrs. G. B_ Rowland, chainman, I* -presided. She welcomed Mrs. W. B. Heywarjd'pd'Mrs. Bill HoweU, . both new menw^s, into the club. : , Mrs. A. L. O’Briant discussed ^^awards of the State Federation of Women’s clubs and urged members to enter competition. The topic for'study was “Peace”. Mrs. Walter McPhaul spoke on “What Are Our Needs,” and Mrs. Ernest Ctumptoell on “What Price ,^eace.” Both gave the club much 'to think aoout along lines of for mulating peace. At the conclusion of the pro gram the hostesses served coffee, )feandiwiches and cookies. ^ 0— — BURNS — CURRIE Plans have been completed for "the wedding of (Miss Ernestine Burns,, daugRter of Mrs. W. E. Burns and the late Mr. Burns of Maxton, and Irviin Raymond Cur- ' rie, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Cur rie of Raeford. The wedding will take place at the. First Presbyterian church in Maxton, Saturday evening, Oc tober 11, at 6;45 o’clock. The Rev. Jaihes Appleby of , the Union Theological Seminary in Rich mond, Va;, a former pastor of the bride, will officiate.. Friends and relatiives are in vited to attend. On October 3rd, at Case Audi torium in Charlotte, the Charlotte Music CliA} presented a six-piano ensemble in a program of fami liar music. The personnel of the ensemblp were Mary Poole Lowe, director, Serene Turnage McLean, chair man, ' Bruce Berryhill, Jean Rob inson Callaghan, Evelyn Reynolds and Fatre Robinson. Since, there is no music written for six pianos, Mrs. Lowe arrang ed all numbers for the ensemble. The numbers were rendered with spirit and precision to a capacity audience, and critics were lavish in their praise of tlie performance. Raeford people attending the concert were Mrs. Ina Bethune, Mrs. Arch Currie, Mrs. Tommie Upchurch, Mrs. Lewis Upchurch, Mrs. Julian ^Blue, Mrs. Younger Snead, Mrs. Crawford Thomas and-Mrg. Graham Dickson. 0 — Capt. Corbett Thigpen of Au gusta, Ga^ was a visitor in Rae ford Tuesday. He came especially to deer hunt. ^ Mrs. Jennie Weaver left yester day for a visit in the home of her son, George Weaver, at Al- bermarle. * Mrs. Irsael ‘ Mann was hostess, to her bridge club one evening last week. The living ro^, where two table? were in play, was attrac-. trvely arranged with lovely fall flowers. After several interesting progressions high score prize was awarded to Mrs. T. B. Lester, Jr. and Mrsi Paul Dezerne captured the floating prize. Mrs. Marshall Thomas was the only guest other than members. B; McFadyen. The Raeford Garden cluib held its first meeting of the year Tues day eyening of this week at the home of Mrs. Hallie Gatlin, with Mrs. Lacy McFadyen assistant hostess. Mrs. T. B. Lester, Jr., chair man, presided, and plans were made for the year’s work. Mrs. Younger Snead gave an interesting talk on “Bulbs To Plant Now, and How To Plant Them.” Mrs. H. A. Cameron talk ed on “Perennials To Be Planted Now.” Each Tnemfoer brought bulbs for an exchange of bulbs. Monroe of Raeford, and Clyde Thomas Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Wood of Raeford, took place Sunday afternoon, Oc tober 5, at 2 o’clock, in a lovely ceremony at the home of the bride’s parents with only mem bers of the . immediate families present. Rev. H. L. Hemphill, pastor of the bride and groom, officiated, using the double rihg ceremony. ^ (Baskets of white gladioli, ar rangements of long leaf pine and ivey decorated the living room. Before the cererpony Mrs. Mai colm Gillis, pianist, played “I Love You Truly” and during the ceremony she played “Seal Us, O Holy Spirit.” The bride and groom entered the living room unattend ed. ^ The bride wore a two piece light blue wool suit with black accessories apd a shoulder cor sage of red roses. Immediately following the cere mony the couple left for a wed ding trip to points North. Mrs. Wood was graduated from Hoke High school and holds a position wifii the REA office in Raeford. Mr. Wood also attended Hoke High school and sen^^e^hree years with the. Merchant Marines. He now holds a i position with t-he Johnson Cotton Company of Rae ford. ■ 0—^ ■. U. D. C. MEETS WITH MRS. STEVENS The Raeford Chapter of the U. D. C. met Wednesday, October- 1, in the home of Mrs. A. K. Ste vens. After the business session the meeting was turned over to Mrs. H. L.
