WOMAN’S CLUB HONORS TEACHERS The annual banquet of Raeford Woman’s club was held in the recreation room of Raefbrd Meth odist Church Tuesday evening, November 21, at 7:00 o’clock. Members of the local school fac ulty were guests of the club. The club colors of yellow and green were carried out in the flower arrangements, menus, and decorations. Tables arranged ban quet style were centered with yellow chrysanthemums and green candles.. A banquet dinner, consisting of turkey, rice, gravy, string beans, dressing, baked apples, cranber ries, celery, rolls, butter, coffee, ice cream, and cake was served. Mrs. W. B. Heyward, president, presided over the banquet. After the invocation led by Mrs. W. T. Covington, Mrs. Heyward, gave the welcome to which Miss Mar garet Watt responded. Mrs. Hin ton McPhaul introduced the new teachers. Mrs. Arthur D. Gore, program chairman, presented Miss Nyra Turberville, pianist; Miss Rachel Protheroe, Cellist; and Mr. James Chapman, accompanist, members of Flora Macdonald faculty who gave a musical program, which was enthusiastically received. _ ---■0.-.. — Mr. and‘Mr^. Kelly McMillan left for their home in Arbuqkle, California, last Sunday after a visit here in the home of Mr. Mc Millan’s brother, Starr McMillan, for several weeks. MRS..GILES AND* MISS SHEPHERD ATTEND CONFERENCE Mrs. Burris Shankle^was a guest at a number of parties in Lum- berton last week, given In honor of Miss Anne Caldwell Baker, who on Saturday eevning was married to John Charles Culbreth, son of Mrs. Shankle and the late Joseph Worth Culbreth.^ On Wednesday morning Mrs. Shankle attended a coffee given by Mrs. Franklin Biggs and Mrs. D. T. Lambeth and on Wednes day afternoon a tea at the home of Mrs. C. S. McArthur with Mrs. A. G. Stacy assisting hostess. Thursday Mrs. Max Weinstein was a luncheon hostess and Fri day Mrs. L. J. Britt and Mrs. R. H. Livermore entertained with a luncheon at the Lorraine hotel. Dr. and Mrs. H. M. Baker, Jr. of Durham entertained the bridal party and out of town guests wHh a luncheon at the Pinecrest Coun try club on Saturday. Mrs. Shan kle was present at all of thes functions. MRS. When the members arrived they were served a dessert and coffee. Two tables were in play. After several progressions, scores were totaled and high score prize was awarded to Mrs. N. B. Blue. In a bingo game which followed Mrs. N. B. Sinclair won. 0 Mrs. Bruce Morris returned to her home in Raeford last Fridr4y after being a patient at Moore County hospital for several weeks. Miss Anne Caldwell Baker, daughter of Mrs. Horace Mitchell Baker and the late Dr. Baker of Lumberton, and John Charles Cul breth, son ot Mrs. Burris Brown Shankle of Raeford, and the late Joseph Worth Culbreth of Pem broke were married Saturday evening at 7:30 o’clock in a cere mony in the First Baptist church of Lumberton. Dr. Phillip J. Mc Lean, pastor, . and Dr. J. Glenn Blackburn, pastor of the Wake Forest Baptist church, and a for mer pastor of the bride, were the officiating ministers. The bride, given in marriage by her brother. Dr. Horace Mitchell Baker, Jr. of Durham, wore a wed ding gown of Duchess satin fash ioned with a yoke of illusion em broidered in pearls and rhine stones, the design extending the entire length of the front of the gown which ended in a full cath edral train. The long sleeves were fashioned with calla lily points at the wrists. The bride’s wedding veil of imported rosepoint lace fell from Mary Queen of Scots cap garlanded in orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of valley lilies and white orchids. Mrs. Horace Mitchell Baker, Jr. of Durham, sister-in-law of the bride, was matron of honor. There were four bridesmaids and a number of honorary bridesmaids. The bridegroom had as his best man, Fred Deans of Charlott and St. Pauls, formerly of Lumber- ton, Joe Culbreth of Raeford, brother of the bridegroom was one of the eighty ushers. The bride is a graduate of Lumberton High ♦School and at tended St. Mary’s in Raleigh, and the Woman’s College of the Uni versity of North Carolina, Greens boro, Mr. Culbreth was braduated.at Lumberton High School and at tended the University of North Carolina. He was a signalman in the U. S. Navy during World War II for three years, and spent two and a half years in the South Pacific. Since 1947 he has been in the reserves and has received his call to active duty. A reception was held at the home of the bride immediate’.-,’ following the wedding. (I MRS. Herman Cdle. who has been with Mann’s Store for the oast several years, has accepted a po sition with the Retail Cred:t Cor poration in Fayetteville and will start his duties there Monday. Mrs. Cole, who has been with T. B. Upchurch, Inc., has accepted a position with the Norman Insur ance Agency in Fayetteville, and will also start her duties Monday. Mr. and Mrs. G.
