Donald Abernethy, superintendent of Hoke County public schools, will be the guest speaker. Douglas Abernethy, president of the 4 - H County Council, will preside. Terri Tyler, vice - president of the county council will lead the pledge of allegiance to the flag and Judy Faulk, council reporter, will conduct the 4 - H pledge and motto. The devotion will be given by the Rockfish Senior Club. Flag bearers will be members of the West Hoke Club. Douglas Aberncthy. will welcome the members and guests and the Rockfish Senior Club will present a song. Tim Young, council secretary, will call the roll of clubs and introduce the speaker. Members of the county extension staff will present the awards. Club presidents will serve as ushers. Hoke Homemakers Attend Consumerama '70 Wed. Members of the extension honremaker's clubs in Hoke County left by chartered bus Wednesday morning to attend the opening Wednesday of Consumerama '70 in Winston Salem. Consumerama '70 is a live ? day exposition designed to help consumers get what they pay for in the supermarket, the dress shop and, especially, the appliance and furniture stores. It is being sponsored by Forsyth County s extension llomemakers Association and is being held in Winston Salem's new multi - million dollai Convention Center. Ihe Hoke County group were to attend a business meeting of the Southwestern District where Mrs. Allan Smythe was to be recognized as district vice chairman of the family life committee and Mrs. f. W. Jones was to be recognized as the 1971 - 72 alternate chairman of the beautitlcation committee. Mrs. Dennis Setzer of Lincolnton presided at the meeting of approximately 800 women from the 17 North Carolina counties thai make up the district. After the business meeting, the llomemakers were to attend a fashion show until lunch, later they were scheduled to see a sjm>y_ sponsored by Celenese on fashions' hi clothing and home furnishings and to tour the exhibit until lime to return to Raeford by bus. Some ol the exhibits aie teaturmg new products and others, old slandbys. All concentrate, however, on advising lather than advertising Speakers during the expositions will include Leslie Dix, the Federal Trade Commission's assistant director of deceptive practices; Richard Maxwell, national president of Better Business Bureau; Robert Morgan, attorney general of North Carolina and William C. Griffin, associate director of product development foi Atlas Chemical Company who will answer questions on food additives. Suggestions will be given at the exposition for stretching the meat dollar, for making lingerie at home, for selecting furniture that will survive children and for buying everything from a dress that won t shrink to a mobile home. The exhibits will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p. m. Tickets to the events are being sold by extension homentakers. Scouts Plan Camporee At Lumberton In April Plans for the Spring Patrol Camporee for scouts and leaders of the etght southeastern counties in the Cape Fear Area Council are almost complete. Sheriff Malcolm McLeod of Lumberton. chairman of camping and activities, announced. The Camporee will be held April 17 - 19 at Riegel Forest Tree Nursery on Highway 211 near Lumberton. Carlton Sligh of Elizabethtown, council commissioner, will be Camporee Chief. He will be assisted by W.E. Morris of Lake Waccamaw. David Brookshire of Wilmington, Bob Whitehead of ljurinburg. Don Rogers of. Fairmont. Howard Mills of Lumberton and Claude Sanford of Laurinburg The program on Saturday will be devoted to events and demonstrations which will feature the theme of "Be Prepared." A special campfire program is planned for the entire Camporee on Saturday evening, and opportunities for religious observances will be given on Sunday morning. Services Held For R.B.Meares Funeral services for Ralph Rennet Meares. 42, were held Sunday in Mount Horrab Methodist Church in Bladen County by the Revs. Valvie Strickland and Ben Mall Burial was in the church cemetery. Coroner Frank Crumpler ruled the death last Thursday was caused by a sell inflicted pistol wound. Surviving him are his wife. Mrs. Martha Meares of Raelwdv his father. She is survived by three daughters, Miss Lois and Lora Mae McKenzie of the home and Mrs. Wayne Jennings of Racford; one granddaughter. Mrs. Dennis English ofJUeford and three great grandchildren.
