Safety Plea For July 4 Motor Vehicles Commissioner Joe Garrett made a special plea today to North Carolina motorists to "play it cool" on the streets and highways of the state during the upcoming July 4th weekend. Garrett reminded motorists that "for the second year in a row we are running behind the highway fatality count of the previous year. This sets North Carolina apart from most other states. Let's keep it that way." The Commissioner said the July 4th weekend is traditionally one of the most dangerous of the year on the state's highways. "But we aren't trying to compete with other states in the area of highway safety. We are trying to prevent accidents and save lives in North Carolina," Garrett said. "We have seen evidence that the average driver is joining us in this effort. This will be a good weekend for the motoring public to prove that our evidence is correct." According to Garrett, the State Highway Patrol will be giving particular attention during the weekend to the speeder and the drinking driver. Civil Court Ends Session District Court Judge D.B. B.k.r, County Agricultural Agtnti Hoke County farmers are eligible for acreage credit on corn which is considered as a failure from the dry hot weather we had recently. That is, providing the farmer is presently participating in the Feed Grain Program. Grain sorghum is an ideal crop to replace corn. Soybeans are not recommended since most corn fields have been treated with herbicides which will prevent the growth of soybeans. Farmers having questions concerning this matter should contact the County ASCS office as soon as possible. Time is of essence. Remember all breeder and feeder swine changing owership and being moved must be accompanied with a permit for movement. Slaughter swine is permitted to move without this permit. Persons planning to sell swine, other than for slaughter, should contact the County F.xtension office and request that an inspection be made. Inspections are made by Vocational Agriculture Teachers and Extension Agents. There is no charge for these inspections. New circular available - Specialist working with the N.C.
