PAINTED PLATES - An exhibition of china painting by Mrs. Margaret Irving is on view at the library. Mrs. Irving, whose interest in antiques led to her study of the almost lost art, is teaching a class here in china painting. Regulations Announced To See School Records County school superintendent Raz. Autry announced school policy for allowing parents to review their child's cumulative tecords: "The Hoke County Board of Education recognizes the right of any parent to review the cumulative record of his or Iter child. The following regulations shall be adhered to in this matter: 1. Prior to the review of a cumulative record the parent must submit in writing a request to the appropriate principal to see their child's record. 2. The parent shall be notified by mail that their child's record is available. 3. The record shall be reviewed at the school in which the child is currently cmolled. The review shall tie in the presence of the principal ot his designee. 4. Form EC-') shall be signed by the parent at this time. 5. If the parent wishes for the record to be released to another school, agency or individual, form EC-12 shall be completed, notarized and submitted to the principal. Famous Trees Are Wanted County Forest Ranger Robert Jones is asking citizens of Hoke County to let him know of any trees in the county which have played a part in the history of the nation, state, or a particular community. Jones said that as part of the nation's Bicentennial, the Division of Forest Resources is compiling information about famous trees located in North Carolina. He also said that the Division Is interested in trees that have a personal history revolving around the history of our state and nation. Examples ate the Liberty Oak and Battle Oak at the Cuillord Courthouse Battleground, the Old Holly Tree in Pamlico County, the Henry Clay Oak in Raleigh and the Giant Oak at Blackbeard's Cove on the Outer Banks. Super intendent_ Date Area Incidents 41 Wigs Are Missing City police are investigating the theft of 41 wigs from a shop on Central Avenue, Friday. The front door of the A and J Wig Shop was forced open and the wigs valued at S409 were taken, Raeford Police Chief Leonard Wiggins reported. Last week in the county, vandals broke into a house under construction in Thomasfield and wrote filthy words on the bathroom walls with a marking pen, according to a complaint from Crawford Thomas, investigated hy deputy sheriffs. The damage was estimated at SI00. Approximately 200 pounds of meat was stolen from the freezer at Upchurch School lunchroom last Thursday. According to the deputy's report, the screws had been removed from the freezer door. Henry Maxwell reported Thursday three cases of soft drinks and three cases of corned beef were stolen from a storage building at Oakdale gin last Thursday. Horace Hayes of Rt. 3 reported four tires stolen from his home last Thursday. Amplifiers and speakers belonging to Rockfish Band were stolen from the Rt. 4 home of Patrick Vines last Saturday. The equipment was valued at $2,100. Sarah Watson of Rt. 8, Sanford, reported that her wheels, tires and hubcaps were stolen from her car as it was parked outside Friendship Church in Wayside, Sunday, while she attended services. Bids Are Scheduled For Hoke Highways Bids for several resurfacing projects in Hoke and Moore counties will be opened Feb. 25 at the regular monthly bid letting in Raleigh. The U.S. Department of Agriculture said that the rising amount of monthly allotments and the corresponding increase in the volume of coupons is the reason for changing to higher denominations. Larger coupon values reduce shipping and production cost. The change in color and the new mote complicated design of the coupons was made to stop counterfeiting. Food stamp recipients are required to spend any of the old coupons they have before July I. Grocers will not accept the old coupons after that date. Without the 50 cent coupons, grocers will use the SI stamps and a credit slip for any change less than a dollar or the recipient may purchase foods worth the amount of their change or pay the difference in cash between the cost of the food and the next lowest dollar amount. The number of recipients for January is unknown, but it is estimated that over 500,000 North Carolinians are participating in the food stamp program or 0.5 percent of the population. Food Stamps Change March 1 Food stamp recipients in North Carolina and across the nation will have some marked changes in stamps they begin purchasing on March 1. One will be in the denominations of the food stamps. New SI. SS, and SIO coupons will be in the coupon book in place of the current 50 cents, 52 and S5 coupons. Aviation Class Planned Co-Op Offers Scholarship Lumliec River l.lectric Membership Corporation will again sponsor tlie Lucy Smith Scholarship program. Under ibis program four scholarships are offered: two S500 scholarships for college or university and two SI50 scholarships for technical or business school.
