Burgess 1975 Flue-Cured Tobacco Price Support Not Tied to Acreage - Flue - cured tobacco growers will not be required to stay within their allotments in order to qualify for price support on 1975 marketings. Price support will be available to eligible producers on their 1975 marketings up to 110 percent of their poundage quotas but some growers have been asking if harvested acreage must be within the allotment to qualify for price support. Support eligibility will not depend on whether the harvested acreage is above or below the farm allotments which growers received in January. Some 190,000 farms have Hue - cured tobacco allotments. The growers are in about 220 counties in North Carolina. South Carolina, Georgia. Virginia. Florida, and Alabama. Farm operators who have experience in tobacco production but who do not have an allotment may learn about the eligibility requirements for new farm allotments by contacting their local office of the USDA's Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. Deadline fo; filing an application for a new allotment is Feb. 15. The program involves no discrimination as to race, religion, color, sex, or national origin. Lease and Transfer of Tobacco and Cotton - Lease and transfer agreements for flue - cured tobacco and cotton are being accepted by the county ASCS office. Signatures on lease agreements must be witnessed by an ASCS employee. The final date to lease and transfer cotton is March 10. Release and Reapportionment of Cotton - Cotton producers who do not plan to plant their full cotton allotment in 1975 may release all or a portion of the allotment. Also, any cotton producer who would like additional cotton acreage should file a request at the countv office. The final date for releasing and requesting additional cotton is March 10.
