Deaths And Funerals Daniel C. Norton Funeral services for Daniel Carl Norton, 82, of Rt. 1, Laurel Hill, were conducted Sunday at 5 P.M. at Marston Baptist Church. Rev. Roby Leach and Rev. Sam Everette officiated. Burial was in Hillside Memorial Park at Laurinburg. Norton died Sept. 19. Survivors include his wife, Maggie Brown Norton; one son, Carl L. Norton of Raeford; four daughters, Mrs. Luther Soles of Fayetteville, Mrs. Mildred Baxley, Mrs. Vernon Clewis, and Mrs. John McLean, all of Laurinburg; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great ? grandchildren. Alfred Long who was out of work last week because of illness was able to return to work Monday. Lacy Koonce of Lumberton visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Herman Koonce last Friday night Miss Mary Priest and Mrs. Maggie Quick visited Adcox Rest Home last Wednesday and found the people they knew there, about the same. Mr and Mrs. Smith Mclnnis left last Wednesday a.m. for a little vacation trip. They went up into Canada, New York and other Northern States and returned home Sunday night. Gibson on Thursday and again on last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Terry have recently returned from a trip to Texas. They went through Arkansas and Oklahoma visiting friends along the way to Dallas. Texas. Then they spent several weeks with their son, Robert and his wife and two sons of Copperas Cove, Texas and her brother and sister - in ? law, Mr. and Mrs. John McColl. Mrs. Marshall Newton, Mrs. A.A. Ray and Mrs. Floyd Monroe went to Long Beach for fishing from Tuesday to Thursday last week. They caught some very nice fish but not enough to brag about. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Allen Monroe of Southern Pines visited her grandmother Mrs. A.W. Wood Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Monroe and son Bryan of McCain and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Monroe were guests of Mrs. A.W. Long of Gallup Acres, Fayetteville spent Sunday afternoon with her mother, Mrs. Ritter. Thomas Ray and his father A.A. Ray visited Mr. and Mrs. Perrin Palmer of Fayetteville Sunday p.m. Carol Fowler left last Friday for her fourth year as a student at Western Carolina University, Cullowhee. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wood and son Timothy of Greenville spent from Saturday to Sunday p.m. with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wood. Mrs. Wood asked that this item be put in the paper so that her daughter Mrs. James Duncan and family of California will see it. Among the folks Joe Lambert visited while here last week were Mr. and Mrs. CM. Chason and son Larry, Mr. and Mrs, O.L. Wood and Mr. and Mrs. Grady English. He did a good job of getting around to see many of his old friends. Lightning ran in on Thomas Mclnnis's television about 2 weeks ago, and damaged it so much it was almost worthless. He had to get another one. Harold Tillman took his mother, Mrs. Mary Dorr of Fayetteville to Wallace Sunday, to visit her daughter Mrs. J.D. King and family. Mrs. Ethel D. Gibson visited Mrs. Tracy Everett of Fayetteville last Friday and she was so glad to sec someone from this area. She asked about all the people she knew. Mr. and Mrs. Sid Sumner of Lumber Bridge and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Freeman of Fayetteville visited Mrs. Ethel D. Gibson last Sunday afternoon. Judy and Jimmy N. Ray got their grandmother, Mrs. N.J. Rittcr's antenna off the top of the holly tree and fixed it firmly back on the top of her house, lest the wind would blow it off of the tree. Mrs. Harold Tillman would like for the owner to come and take away from her home a German Shepherd dog thai wants to stay there. Mrs. E.E. Emmons's dog thai she missed when she got home from church last Sunday was out in the woods with 7 or 8 young puppies. Does anyone want a dog? Mrs. R.V. Tanner, Mrs. Henry Fowler and daughter Kathy attended the Walker - Hair wedding at Winston-Salem Saturday. The bride is a granddaughter of Mrs. Will Hair of Wayside and the late Mr. Hair BIRTHDAY A birthday celebration for Mrs. Fredis Hudson was held last Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Aubrey Gaddic and family and among those present were, Mr. and Mrs. Joel Lambert Jr. and daughters, Jill and Jan of Fayetteville, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Hudson and daughter, Mclanie of Spring Lake, and family friends, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Jenkins of Fayetteville. It was a birthday dinner not to be forgotten with birthday cake and all the good things that go with birthdays. The honorcc, Mrs. Hudson received many lovely and useful gifts and every one wishes for her many, many more happy birthdays. Mrs. J.W. Caddell of Raeford spent last Wednesday with her cousin Mrs. Albert White of Fayetteville. Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Caddell visited his relatives at Turnout last Tuesday and came back by Laurinburg, where they did some shopping. Joe Lambert of Andrews, S.C. was also a guest of Mt. and Mrs. Caddell while in North Carolina last Saturday. Mrs. Demont Long who was a patient at Cape Fear Valley Hospital for some time got home last week. CLUB MEETS Rockfish Extension Homemakers Club met on Monday Sept. 22 at the home of Mrs. George Monroe, with ten present. For the demonstration a film strip was shown, entitled "Tho I Walk Through The Valley", a very timely message to old and young. Plans for Achievement Day were made. Each club will be responsible for one table that day. During the social hour the hostess, Mrs. Monroe, served delightful refreshments. It was a good club meeting. Plans were made for next club meeting at the home of Mrs. A.A. . Ray. COMMENT Did you ever stop to think how many telephone calls it takes to get all these items for the Rockfish news? Teen Center Planned A church recreation center for teenagers is now in the process of being formed, according to Mrs. John Scott Poole, one of the organizers of the center. "I think the kids need a decent place to go," said Mrs. Poole. She indicated that the purpose of the center is not to compete, but to provide an alternate for the young people of Raeford. "It won't be in competition with anything, it will just be an alternative for the kids,"1 she said. "We simply want to provide wholesome recreation, and the first day is isn't wholesome, we'll close it. It will give those who are wandering around something to do," site said.
