Fall Bazaar Saturday The Raeford Junior Womans Club will sponsor a fall craft bazaar Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Edenborough Shopping Center. Among the many craft items being offered will be Christmas decorations and items perfect for Christmas gifts. Sale hours are 10 am to 2 pjn. All profits from this project will be donated to the Hoke County Library Fund. BAZAAR ITEMS - These are some of the handmade articles which will be offered for sale Saturday at the Junior Womans Club bazaar. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Bicentennial library fund. Shady Grove Church Homecoming 2nd Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church near Wagram will observe its annual homecoming Sunday, November 2, 1975. Homecoming day services will begin at 10:00 A.M. with Sunday School and morning worship at 11:00 A.M. Dinner will be served on the grounds at 12 noon. Rev. M.E. Stubbsof Aaron Swamp Baptist Church, Fairmont, will be guest speaker for the afternoon services at 3:00 P.M. Rev. J.W. Gorham, pastor invites the public to attend. Nat'l Convention Draws Home Agent "Spirit of '7b ? Spotlight on Professionalism" is the theme for the 41st annual meeting of the National Association of Extension Home Economists (NAEHEI Octo ber 27-31 at Knoxville. Mrs. Ellen S. Willis. Hoke County Home economics extension agent, is among more than 1800 extension home economists from all the states and Puerto Rico attend ing the annual N.A.E.H.E. meet ing. 110 are from North Carolina. The meeting is hosted by the Tennessee home economists, and will focus on heritage, professional excellence and professional accountabilitv. Paul West of Shelby will be the guest speaker at Ashley Heights Baptist Church for their homecoming and revival services, Nov. 2-7. Brother West served as pastor of the Ashley Heights Church from 1%2 until 1964. At present he is serving as pastor of the Plesent Ridge Baptist Church in Shelby. Homecoming services will be held Sunday morning, November 2. Dinner will be on the grounds. Revival services will be conducted nightly Sunday thru Friday at 7:30. The public is invited. STATE FAIR WINNER - L. E. McLaughlin, Jr., displays the ribbons he won for his swine at the State Fair last week in Raleigh. One of his pigs received both the Junior Champion and Grand Champion prizes. Pig Is State Champ A Hoke County swine breeder walked away with blue ribbons including the Grand Champion prize at the State Fair in Raleigh last week. Miss Star Patty, a 270 pound February pig. took a first place ribbon and then went on to winning Junior Champion and Grand Champion of Senior Show for owner L.E. McLaughlin. Jr. The prize gilt was sold after the judging and she will appear at the Southeastern Congress in January scheduled in Athens. Ga. McLaughlin also earned a third place and a ninth place with two other pigs he exhibited. Jury Awards $2,500 Only one case reached the jury in last week's Civil District Court before Judge D.B. Herring. Jr. Ernest L. Stoffell was awarded $2,500 in damages from John S. Poole in an action involving an automobile accident. Poole ap pealed the case to the North Carolina Court of Appeals. A total of seven divorces was granted. William T. Connell was granted a divorce from Mary Jane R. Connell and was taxed for the action. Beatrice Rogers Locklear was granted an absolute divorce from James Earl Locklear and was ordered to pay costs of the action. Hildegard H. Paul was granted a divorce from L'uther S. Paul and was taxed the costs of the action. Peggy B. Huey was granted a divorce from Otis Huey and was taxed costs of the action. A divorce was granted to Charles Blue from Willie Mae Blue and he was taxed costs of the action. Bud Henry Pirkle w as granted a divorce from Edna Louise McNeill Pirkle and was taxed costs of the action. Younger Snead. Jr.. was granted a divorce from Steva R. Snead and was taxed costs of the action. Four cases were voluntary dismissals. Deaths And Funerals Mrs. Mary R. McVicker Mrs. Mary Rose McVickcr, 69, died Monday al Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. Funeral services were scheduled for 3 P.M. Wednesday at Raeford United Methodist Church. Burial was in Raeford Cemetery. Surviving are her husband, John Thomas McVickcr. three brothers. Causey Rose of Asheboro, and Heston Rose and Clarence Rose, both of Raeford; three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Middleton of Broomall, Pa., Mrs. Edna Chasey of Long Branch, N.J.. and Mrs. Leone Twiddy of fcdenton, N.C. John W. McMillan John Wesley McMillan, age 68, of Rt. 3. Raeford. died Thursday at Moore Memorial Hospital in Pine hurst. McMillan, a farmer. was born January 15. 1907 in Scotland County, son of John Wesley McMillan. Sr. and Laura Jane Tyner McMillan. Graveside services were held Saturday. October 25. from St. Paul United Methodist Church near Rockingham. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Diggs McMillan of the home; a son. Jack Wesley McMillan of Raeford, stepfather, W.W. Lathan of Wagram, six brothers. Harvey Lathan of Pine bluff, Earl Lathan of Butner, Harold Lathan of Charlotte. Bill Lathan, Hubert Lathan. and Morris Lathan. all of Marston, three sisters. Mrs. Bob Hanselman of Pineblufl, Mrs. Joe Carpenter of Wagram, and Mrs. Clarence Rivers of Raleigh; and four grandchildren. Alton E. McGirt The funeral services for Alton Eugene McGirt, 21, who died Thursday, Oct. 23, were held Saturday, Oct. 25, at 11 A.M. at the First Baptist Church with the Revs. Jack Mansfield and Carson Brock officiating. Burial was in the Raeford Cemetery. Suvivors include his father, Alton McGirt, and his mother, Mrs. Bill H. Smith, both of Raeford; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alton E. McGirt of Newton; his maternal grandparents , Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Crosby of Blackshet, Ga.; one brother. Clay MoGlrt of Raeford; two sisters, Mrs. Sally Roberts and Miss Lydia McGirt, both of Raeford.
