Remain Undefeated Bucks Blast Devils, Sanford The Hoke High Bucks's baseball team captured two wins last week to bring their record to a sparkling 3-0. Last Tuesday, March 9, the Bucks scored nine runs on eleven hits and blasted Red Springs 9-7 in nine innings and on Friday they routed Sanford 6-5. David McNeill was the winner for the Bucks against Red Springs after he went to the mound in the sixth inning and finished the game for the locals. Leading hitter for the Buck team was Noah Hendrix. who went 2-2 and had four RBIs. One of his hits was a double. Allen Thomas had a triple and a double for the Bucks and was 2-5. Ted Dunn led the Red Devils in hitting with a triple and a double as he was 2-4. Last Friday, Eddie Ramsey struck out six batters, had two hits, and knocked in two runs as the Bucks won their first conference game of the season. Stanley Cummings was 2-3 for the Bucks to aid the victory. Mitchell Strickland hit a two-run homer for the Yellowjackets. The victory was the second of the season tor Ramsey and the third victory for the undefeated Bucks. The Buck's next encounter was against the Raiders of Richmond County here Tuesday afternoon. SPGS. 2 2 0 0 0 3 0 0 0 7- 5-6 Track Team Takes Second The Hoke High track team finished second in a three school meet at Pine Forest High School last Thursday. Terry Sanford High School won the meet with 80 points. Hoke had 65 points, and Pine Forest finished with 23. Franklin Jordan won three events and finished third in another. Jordan took first pl -.ee honors in the high jump, the pole vault, and the low hurdles and finished third in the high hurdles. For his performance, Jordan was named "Trackman of the Week" by Coach John Buchholz. Avery White won the shot put for Hoke and Reggie McRae finished first in the 220. Carnell Andrews finished first in the mile run with a time of 4:51.3. The Bucks next meet will be against Sanford. Lumberton, and Richmond here today (Thursday). College News Miss Melanie Gayle Childress of 319 W. Edinborough Avenue has been invited to participate in the March 20th competition for the Julia Hamlet Harris Scholarships offered by Meredith College. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Robert Childress. Selected for scholastic achieve ment. intellectual promise, and leadership ability. Miss Childress, a senior at Hoke County High School, will be having interviews with a faculty ? selection committee at the College. From the 34 applicants chosen for the inter views. 12 will be named Harris Scholars. A Harris Scholarship at Mere dith ranges from $100 to $1,200 per year, depending on the financial need of the recipient. Winners will be notified of their selection by April 1. Deborah Davis, a freshman at Appalachian State University in Boone, has been chosen to compete in free style ice skating at Knox ville, Tenn., March 27 - 29, as a member of The Polar Palace Skating Club in Boone. Miss Davis is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chalmers Davis of Raeford. Vernon W. Brown is one of 57 Methodist College students who will participate in a 44 - hour continuous run - a - thon to Washington, D.C., April 1 - 3. Brown plans to run a total of two miles in the 343 mile relay race. Brown, a religion major, is the son of Mrs. Marie C. Brown of Raeford. WINNING FORM?
