Autry, formerly of Raeford. lumber Bridge News by Lib Suimtr The outstanding news for this week was the wonderful rain which fell Friday night and Saturday in this part of the county. Every one was glad to have the rain, especially the farmers. Attendance at the Baptist Church was poor Sunday ? Schedule of services is 2nd and 4th Sundays. Ira Jacobs III of Wilmington was selected, one out of 400 in North Carolina, to the Governor's School. He is the grandson of Reverend and Mrs. Stacy A. Wells. Charlie Dearen of Jacksonville, Florida spent last week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Clark. Clinton Jackson, who was quite sick last week, is able now to be out and at his store. Mrs. John Balfour is attending The North Carolina Federation for women convention in Raleigh Tuesday through Wednesday of this week. Mrs. George Caddell and Mrs. Fulford McMillan spent Wednesday morning in Rowland with their sister, Mrs. Henry Crawford. Mrs. Crawford came back with them and is spending several days with Mr. and Mrs. George Caddell and Eddie. Mrs. Jack Hamilton of Lumberton spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. A.F. Tolar. Mrs. J. Edwin Clifton, Jr., Mrs. J.C. Chason and Mrs. A.F. Tolar attended the play "Salute America" Saturday night at the Methodist College in FayetteviUe. Mrs. J.C. Chason of Fayetteville spent the weekend with her brother, Mr. and Mrs. J. Edwin Clifton, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Herman McNeill of Red Springs and Mrs Annie Tolar visited Mrs. Tolar's sister, Mrs. G.T. Conoly in Wendell Wednesday. They found Mrs. Conoly improving, after a fall and cutting her leg. Mr. and Mrs. S.E. Sumner and Miss Pamela Sumner visited Mr. and Mrs. John E. Sumner in Fayetteville Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Elizabeth Tolar of Lumberton spent Sunday and Monday with her sister. Miss Mildred WiUiford. Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Shelton and children visited relatives in Mt. Airy last weekend. Mrs. John Meaney and son John Paul of New York is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bullard. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Lumber Bridge Vol. Fire Department met Tuesday night at the Fire Station. Mr. and Mrs. J. Edwin Clifton, Jr. have returned to Lumber Bridge from their ten day trip, which included a 3-day curise to Nassau, the capita) of the Bahamas. On the way to Miami they spent one night with a former Patent Office co-worker, Mrs. Lois Keenan and her husband Ed at New Smyrna Beach. The next two nights they visited with Mrs. Dorothy Luers of Lantana, formerly of Washington, D.C. They also visited with Mrs. Clifton's sister, Mrs. Fred Custer also of Lantana. After the cruise they visited another former Patent Office co-worker, Mrs. Margaret Towner and her husband in Hollywood. They crossed the state and visited Mrs. Clifton's sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. V.C. Carver of Englewood. On their return trip, they stopped at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Smith in Lake Como and brought Mrs. Smith's sister, Mrs. Trinity Mehaffey, to her home in Atlanta, Georgia.
