July was a light month for rain in comparison with last year's 11.5 inches of precipitation for the same month. Most of the month 's 4.2 inches fell in the beginning of the month, as can be seen in this daily chart. July rainfall in 1974 totaled 3.8 inches. In 1970 8.0 inches was recorded. MUSICAL? These Raeford Presbyterian Church youths are among the performers in the musical " The New Covenant, to be presented Aug. II in the church fellowship hall. Church Youths Plan Musical Wednesday. August 11. at 8:15 P.M.. the Raeford Presbyterian young people will present the teaching musical, "The New Cove nant" by John Fischer in the church's fellowship hall. ? Approximately 33 young people will participate in this production. Soloists for the musical include Ken MaoDonald as Moses. Joanna ? Best, Janet Best, Petria Poole, Richard Jones, Dwan Upchurch, Cecilia Ropp, Miriam Ropp, David Richards, and Ken Koonce. The group is under the direction of Chris C. Watkins. director of music at the Raeford Presbyterian Church. The production is called "A Teaching Musical" because it pro vides the performers, as well as the audience, with learning about Benefit Dance Aug. 6 At 9 The Hoke County Communica tions Center will sponsor a dance at the Woodmen of the World Lodge on August 6 aT 9:00 P.M. The proceeds will go to help an area family who are having difficulties due to poor health and to the Hoke County Rescue Squad for a piece of needed equipment. Tickets will be on sale for $3 each * or two for $5. Music will be by the "Carolina Thunder." Everyone is invited. Door prizes donated by the Raeford merchants will be awarded. God's love and understanding for mankind as exemplified in His new covenant with us ? His Son, Jesus Christ. "We have been rehearsing this mucial since the first of the year and with each rehearsal we have learned more and more what the meaning of Christianity implies," explained Watkins. "It is our hope that those who come to see our musical will experience the joy and love and excitement that we have shared with one another as we have studied and learned the different passages of this beautiful musical!" The group will be accompanied by Miriam Ropp, piano, Stephen Poole, guitar, and Ronald Phillips on drums. Special lighting effects have been designed and will be operated by Deuce Niven. Superior Court Convenes Aug. 9 Judge Clarence W. Hall will preside over a combined criminal and civil one week term of Superior Court here opening Monday, Aug. 9. According to the calendar of cases published by the clerk's office six defendants are scheduled for judgment on Aug. 9: Wanda Jones (attempted arson and injury to personal property), Austin D. Yarborougn (breaking and enter ing and larceny), Bud H. Pirkle (manufacturing marijuana and possession of a controlled sub stance), Louise R. Shands (carrying a concealed weapon, driving under the influence, reckless driving, simple assault, speeding 81 in a 55 MPH zone, DUI second count, worthless check two counts), James D. McAllister (worthless check four counts) and Winford Bullard (DUI third offense). Also on Aug. 9, three persons are slated for probation hearings: John M. Breeden, Glenwood Hunt and Jimmy S. Pierce. Four persons are scheduled for bond forfeiture hear ings: Louis R. Shands, John J. Leach, Joe L. Cook and Louis C. Cunningham. Nine criminal cases are calen dared for trial on Aug. 9: Richard Ellis (burning of a dwelling), Curtis Lee Williams (assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury), Marvin Jacobs, Jr. (larceny and receiving), Conrad Hollingsworth (assault with a dead ly weapon), Dunk Leath, alias John Leach (ADWITKISI), Lee Roy Keel (ADWITKISI). Those cases calendared for trial on Tuesday, Aug. 10 are: Lacy Locklear (receiving stolen goods), Earl Bullard (second degree burg lary), James Earl Jackson (second degree burglary), Pittman Bullard (DUI second offense), Glen Evans (DUI second offense), Larry Chavis Jr. (ADWITKISI). McNeill ' (unauthorized use of conveyance, driving left of Minister To Leave The Rev. Jack H. Mansfield announced Sunday that he will be leaving the First Baptist Church in Raeford August 22. The Rev. Mansfield and his family will be moving to Carroboro August 23 where he will minister to the congregation of the Carroboro Baptist Church. A native of Georgia, the Rev. Mansfield said that the move was not from any conflict at the First Baptist Church, but that he felt that he had accomplished as much as he could here and felt it was time to move on. He also pointed out that he would like to move his college age children closer to Chapel Hill. Many of the congregation ex pressed regret at his decision to leave. McBryde Reunion The annual McBryde reunion will be held Sunday, Aug. 8 at Antioch Presbyterian Church. Reg ular morning service will be at 11 A.M. and lunch will be served on the church grounds following the service. A short business meeting will be held in the church immediately after lunch.
