Ladies' Tourney The Raeford Kiwanis Club is sponsoring the Ladies' Invitational Tournament which started Tues day, August 3 with the champion ship to be played Friday night. Tuesday's round saw Waverly Mills playing the Raeford All Stars at 7:00. The Hoke Jaycees played Jackson's of Laurinburg at 8:00 with the winner of the first game playing Hollingsworth and Top Sound Music at 9:00. Admission is SI for adults and S.50 for children. Trophies will be awarded to the tournament winner, the runner-up, the MVP. and 13 all stars. Volleyball Action By Ann Howell In volleyball action of last week, Denise Brown and teammates picked up a win over Susan Bounds' group, who forfeited be cause of lack of players. In other competition, team #3 won over team #5 with scores of 15-1 and 15-4. Kathy Davis and Joyce McKenzie both contributed to their team's victory, having very effective serving rounds. The last match of the night went to Ralph Huff and teammates over Ken MacDonald's group. The match went into a three-game playoff. Team #4 picked up the first game, only to lose the last two for defeat. Starting Monday. Aug. 9. there will be a volleyball tournament. The tournament will be held at Upchurch gym from 7-9 P.M. The public is invited. In the 7 00 game the Jaycees held HWT and TSM to win S-0 after five and a half innings. B. Leslie. A. Hollingsworth. and S. Bounds were 1-2 for HWT and TSM while K. Little and D. Shaw were 3-3 for the Jaycees. In the final game the Jaycees won over HWT and TSM with a 10-5 decision. G. Murchinson was 2-2 for the Jaycees while B. Campbell and D. Shaw were 1-1 with Campbell's two run homer. Barbara Campbell was voted the MVP for regular season while her teammate. Katln Little, was voted the MVP for tournament play. Both giils are members of the Jaycees team. The regular season championship trophy was earned by the Jaycees ISO record. Hollingsworth and Top Sound Music took the runner-up trophy for tournament play. MOST VALUABLE-Kathy Little was selected Most Valuable Player <>/ the tournament and is handed her trophy by Pat Scott. Truckers Take Trophy By Pat Scott Hunt's Truckers only lost one game during the double elimination tournament to take home the trophies with a big 3-3 performance by C. Quick to down Hugh's Texaco 13-1 alter 4!* innings. Monday the Patriots defeated the Rec. Wreckers 11-2 after five and a half innings of play. S. Leach was 1 -2 for the^Wreckers while G. McRae had a 3-3 effort for the Patriots with aid from A. Thomas's 2-3 at bat. Tuesday, Hunt's Truckers upset Hughes Texaco in an extra inning game. E. Bridges was 34 for Hugh's Texaco to lead the attach. D. Shaw tfas 4-4 for Hunt's Truckers with two runs while C. Kershaw and J. Lide aided the Truckers' hitting with 2-4 efforts. In Tuesday's second game Hugh's Texaco defeated the Rec. Wreckers fi-0 due ju> a forfeit to eliminate the Wreckers. Hunt's Truckers upset the Patriots with a 4-3 decision in a hard fought game Wednesday night. A. B ratchet led Hunt's batting with a 2-3 effort driving in the winning tun. D. Masse) was 2-2 for the Patriots with assistance from A. McRae's 2-3 ai bat. The Patriots didn't seem to get any breaks going against the strong defensive Hugh's Texaco team. Hugh's eliminated the Patriots with a 3-2 decision after five and a half innings of play. C. Sappenfield was > 1-1 for the Patriots with help from C. Bratcher's 1-2 efforts. J. Blackshear, S. McRae, J. Graham, and L. McPhatter was 1-2 for the Texaco, Team. , In Thursday's finals. Hugh's * Texaco defeated Hunt's Truckers ? 12-10. E. Bridges was 2-3 for Hugh's Texaco with a 1-1 performance by teammate Sheila McRae and a 24 ' effort by L. McPhatter. A. Bratcher ? led Hunt's batting with a great 44'""? performance with help from Quick and C. Sap^ent'ield's 2-4" batting but it wasn t enough ti overcome the Hugh's power. i Hunt's Truckers came back in th) final game ready for the Texacij team. C. Quick led the Hunt's attaclj batting 3-3 with 2-3 efforts from A Bratcher and J. McNeill. E. Bridge was 2-2 for the Hugh's team with., 1-2 performance by D. All participants may have as many strokes as they like. Each shot will cost a quarter. The range will he approximately 100 yards and golf balls will be provided for the contestant's use.
