In District Court F ew Cases Make Light Schedule Only a handful of cases were heard Friday in District Court before Judge Dupree and court was Adjourned before noon. Larry McCain, Shawtown, pleaded not guilty to assault with a deadly weapon but was found guilty. Benjamin Green testified that McCain hit him in the arm with a bumper jack outside the Moonlight Inn in Jones Hill on the evening of May 14. Green said the wound required 16 stitches. McCain testified in his own defense that he used the bumper jack while attempting to break up an altercation. Sentencing of McCain was delayed until July 8. In other cases, John G. Balfour Jr., Rt. 1, Lumber Bridge, pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of exceeding a safe speed. He was fined court costs. v Raymond C. Bama, Rt. 1, Box 36, Raeford, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and received a 90 day term suspended for 12 months. He was fined $150 and costs and ordered not to operate a motor vehicle in North Carolina for one year. Jim Boahn, Rt. 4, Box 215, 'Raeford, pleaded not guilty and was found not guiltyof assault with a deadly weapon. The prosecuting witness was ordered to pay costs for frivolous and malicious prosecu * tion. Belton Day, Shawtown, pleaded not guilty and was found not guilty of simple assault. The prosecuting witness was ordered to pay costs for frivolous and malicious prosecu tion. The following charges were dismissed by the prosecutor: Robert L. Campbell, P.O. Box 226, Shannon, worthless check; Harold Bullard, Rt. 1, Aberdeen, assault on a female; and Alton Odom, Rt. 1, Raeford, public drunkenness. Thursday Sen Ion James Lee McNatt. Rt. I, Box 539, Raeford, pleaded guilty to a charge of non - support and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, suspended, and ordered to pay 550 each week for the benefit of his children. McNatt was also charged court costs. ? Edward Deeb, Box 262, Rae ford, pleaded guilty to three charges of worthless checks. Two of the charges were coMolidated for judgment and earned Deeb 30 days in jail, suspended on the condition that he pay restitution in the count of $40 to Mack's Department Store and pay court costs. On the third charge. Deeb drew a 60 day suspended sentence and was ordered to pay SI 02 restitution for Rowdy Meats plus court costs. Willie F. Williamson, Aberdeen, was sentenced to 30 days in the Hoke County Jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of public intoxication. ? , _ C1 Jessie McNair, Jr., Rt. 3, Box 51, Raeford, received a 12 month sentence, suspended for three and one half years, after he pleaded guilty to a third offense driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor charge. He was ordered to follow the guidance of his probation officer in regards to alcoholic rehabilitation and to surrender his operator's license to the cleric of court. McNair was fined $500 plus costs of action. Timothy Michael Corrigan, Fay etteville, was sentenced to 90 days in jail, suspended for 12 months, after he pleaded guilty to a DUI charge. He was ordered to sur render his license for 12 months and was fined $150 plus costs. Irvin McMillan. Box 61. Shannon, pleaded not guilty to a charge of DUI. He was found guilty and sentenced to 90 days in jail, suspended for 12 months, and fined $150 plus costs. The defendant gave notice of appeal. Robert Wallace Johnson, Edin borough St., Raeford. entered a plea of guilty to a fifth offense DUI charge and was sentenced to 12 months in jail and fined $500 plus costs. The court recommended that Johnson's sentence be served under the work release program. Joe Alexander Wilson, Rt. 3, Box 324, Raeford, was sentenced to 15 months in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of fourth offense DUI and driving without a license. The defendant gave notice of ftP?ulIton White, Rt. 2. Box 496, Raeford, pleaded guilty to driving without a license and to third offense DUI. White gave notice of appeal after hearing his sentence of 15 months in jail. George Pierce, Hempstead. H.Y was found guilty of the lesseT included charge of operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol reading of 10 percent or more alter he pleaded not guilty to a DUI. Billy Gene Pate, Red Springs, ? leaded guilty to speeding 70 in a S m.p.h. zone and was given a prayer for judgment continued upon payment of court costs. Johnnie Lee Jones, Maxton, pleaded guilty to speeding 78 in a 55 m.p.h. zone and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, suspended, and fined S25, plus costs. James David Willis, P.O. Box 800, Raeford, was given a prayer for judgment continued after he pleaded guilty to speeding 69 in a 55 m.p.h. zone. He was charged costs of action. Harvey Chapman Worthington, Southern Pines, pleaded guilty to speeding 70 in a 55 m.p.h. zone and was given a prayer for judgment continued upon payment of costs. Donnie Ethell Reynolds, Wil mington, was given a prayer for judgment continued after she S leaded guilty to speeding 65 in a 5 m.p.h. zone. Reynolds was ordered to pay court costs. George Purvis, Jr., Fayetteville, 5 leaded guilty to speeding 65 in a 5 m.p.h zone and was given a prayer for judgment continued upon payment of costs. Lennon Harris, Rt. 4, Mea dowood Trailer Park, Raeford, was sentenced to 30 days in jail, suspended, and fined S25 plus costs. Harris entered a plea of guilty to a charge of speeding 72 in a 45 m.p.h. zone. Ronald Stephen Garren, Fay etteville, was given a prayer for judgment continued upon payment of costs after he pleaded guilty to speeding 65 in a 55 m.p.h. zone. Larry Davis Shoe, Aberdeen, paid court costs after he pleaded guilty to exceeding a safe speed. Charles Edward Handon, Rt. 1, Box 589, Raeford, was fined S15 and given a 30 day suspended sentence after he pleaded guilty to speeding 69 in a 55 m.p.h. zone. Handon was also given a 30 day suspended sentence and fined $25 plus costs after he pleaded guilty to reckless driving. Charles E. Handon then pleaded guilty to a charge of driving left of center and was granted a prayer for judgment continued upon payment of costs. Cedric Perry Smith, Hallsboro, entered a plea of not guilty to charges of speeding 102 in a 55 m.p.h. zone and reckless driving. He was found guilty on both charges and sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended for 12 months, and fined $200 plus costs. He was further ordered not to violate any penal laws of the state for the 12 month period. Smith gave notice of appeal. Norman Douglas Hubbard, Greensboro, was given a 30 day suspended sentence and fined $25 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless driving. Alonzo Lee Herbin, Greensboro, was fined $25 and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, suspended, after he entered a plea of guilty to a charge of reckless driving. Attila Puskar, Fayetteville, pleaded guilty to driving without a license and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, suspended, and fined $25 plus costs. Gustavius Beang Parker, Jr., Fayetteville, was given a prayer for judgement continued after he pleaded guilty to failure to yield right of way. Parker was charged court costs. E)eborah L. LaFollette, Fay etteville, pleaded guilty to an inspection violation and was granted a prayer for judgment continued upon payment of costs. Glenn Herman Myrick, Fay etteville. was given a prayer for judgment continued upon payment of costs after he pleaded guilty to an inspection violation. William Archie Brooks, P.O. Box 13, Shannon, was fined $25 and sentenced to 30 days in jail, suspended, after he pleaded guilty to an inspection violation.
