CLEAN AIR WEEK ?? Raeford May J.K. McNeill is shown signing a proclamation which designates the week of May 1 through May 7 as "Clean Air Week for Raeford. " Through this proclamation, the Mid-State Lung Association is drawing attention to the prevention and control of lung diseases. Shown with the mayor are Ralph Huff and Mrs. R.E. Clean Air Week Proclaimed Here The week of May 1 through May 7 will be observed on a nation wide basis as NATIONAL CLEAN AIR WEEK under the sponsorship of the American Lung Association and its state and regional offices. Mayor John K. McNeill of Raeford is shown above signing an official Proclamation declaring May 1-7 as "Clean Air Week for Club Plans Luncheon The Raeford Senior Citizens Friendship Club will hold a covered dish luncheon at the Raeford Methodist Church Tuesday, May 2, at 12:30 p.m. Club members are asked to bring plants for a plant exchange. > Rose Visits Congressman Charlie Rose an nounced the 7th Congressional District mobile office will visit Raeford April 29. Rip Collins. Rose's representa tive in the district, will be in the mobile office to talk with citizens from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Raeford Post Office parking lot. Raeford." Local residents who are members of the Board of Directors of the Mid-State Lung Association, which serves Hoke County, are shown above at the time of the Proclamation signing. Mayor NcNeill's Proclamation declares that "the air we breathe belongs to all our citizens, and the quality of the environment affects the health and well-being of every one. Pollutants in the atmosphere can increase acute respiratory ail ments and worsen chronic dis orders such as Asthma, Emphy sema, lung cancer and heart disease; the success of efforts to maintain air quality standards depends on the awareness and cooperation of all our citizens." "It takes the joint efforts of all individuals ? business and in dustrial leaders, organizations and government agencies - to maintain a healthy environment and to pledge ourselves to more effective action for clean air not only for today's citizens but also for future generations," according to Mayor McNeill. He commended the Mid-State Lung Association for its sponsor ship of "Clean Air Week" and its persistent efforts year-round to assure a healthier environment as a keystone in its continuing program to prevent and control lung dis eases. They sang at The Pentagon and the Veteran's Hospital. They enjoyed a midnight cruise down the Potomac. The group also went to the musical "The American Dance Machine" at Ford Theater. Once again congratulations and "thank you" for a job well done. Congratulations are also extend ed to Thomas Campbell on being given "Honorable Mention" from the State Wrestling Team. This award is given to high school wrestlers who excell in the sport. Last Wednesday, the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. presented "Laughter in American History." Subject matter of this film was how humor had changed through American history and how it made life more bearable through times like the Revolutionary War, the Depression and World Wars I and 11. The film was enjoyed by HHS students especially when students received albums for answers to questions dealing with post American comedians.
