People who have peach trees
should be thinking about thinning
if they have set too much fruit.
If you can still cut through a
peach, thinning may still be ef
fective. As the pit hardens and the
knife will not cut the seed, thinning
time is over.
At the top of the tree fruit can be
left 4 to 6 inches apart; in the
middle 6 to 8 inches apart; and at
the bottom part of the tree 8 to 12
inches apart. Also remember that a
tree will produce a certain volume
per tree. This can be 1 - inch fruit
or 3 - inch diameter fruit.
Now is the time to send in your
request for purchases of new peach
varieties. You need to act now for
trees to be budded in early June for
planting in early winter. Contact

Timely cultivations are a must to
produce a good crop of flue - cured
tabacco. You might ask how many
cultivations are really needed?
Based on the results of 20 on -
farm tests conducted from 1%5 -
68. two times is all that is necessary
if a herbicide is used. Tobacco
roots are very sensitive to oxygen
starvation and any crusting of soil
or water logging of soil will cause
this. Putting up a high ridge is
necessary to prevent drowning or
blowing over from wind.
Growers should evaluate your
management practices and make
treatment that are necessary.
