Rose Parish Considered
Rose Marie Parish, a Hoke
County High School senior, has
been named for further considera
tion in the Pogue Scholarship
program of the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She was notified of this last week
by Charles Long, chairman of the
Pogue Scholarship Committee, by
letter.
Miss Parish was asked to arrive
in Chapel Hill on the afternoon of
March 21 and spend the nights of
March 21 and 22 as a guest at the
Carolina Inn.
Long wrote that she was among
the 18 students elected for further
consideration from among more
than 250 applicants.
Miss Parish's home is on Rt. 1,
Red Springs.

Tonight, March 4, at 7:30 p.m..
Mrs. Ellen Willis, extension home
economics agent, will conduct a
workshop on "Cooking With Hon
ey."
On March 18 at 7 p.m., the
Agricultural Extension Service will
conduct a program on vegetable
gardening. The program is design
ed for both experienced and inex
perienced gardeners. Come and
participate in this program.
A garden contest, with judges
and prizes, would provide an
incentive to improve many of our
cultural practices in Hoke County.
If you are interested in helping to
organize such an effort please come
on March 18 and express your
interest.

tree seedlings on a first come first
serve basis due to limited number.
Trees will be given free to anyone
in Hoke County with only a small
handling fee of a nickle or less
each. Any number can be request
