Celebrates 60th Anniversary
The Chaminade Music Club met
the evening of May 1 1 in celebra
tion of its 60th Anniversary and
honoring the Past Presidents.
After a delicious salad and
dessert dinner, the president. Mrs.
Archie Howard, called the meeting
to order with the singing of the
Federation Hymn, accompanied by
Mrs. Steve Phillips, and followed
by the club collect.
During the brief business ses
sion, Mrs. Neal McNeil was elected
president-elect. The president an
nounced that the club rating sheet
sent to the North Carolina Federa
tion of Music Gubs, showed the
club had earned 1 ,654 points for
the year and that the club had
received the certificate of award for
outstanding achievement for its
yearbook for 1981-82.
Mrs. Julius Jordan, Historian,
read a history of the 60 years of the
club.
Sixteen past presidents were
honored with small corsages with
their names and years they served
as president. The presidents were
also honored by the club's joining
the Past Presidents Assembly of the
North Carolina Federation. The
money contributed to this assembly
will be used for scholarships for
young musicians.
Four charter members, Mrs.
H.C. McLauchlin, Mrs. Kate Cov
ington, Mrs. R.B. Lewis and Mrs.
Hugh Lowe were recognized. Three
honorary members, Mrs. H.C.
McLauchlin, Mrs. J.W. Walker
and Miss Maude Poole, were also
recognized.
Miss Maude Poole delighted
everyone with her own poem to the
past presidents.
Mrs. Hugh Lowe, program
leader, announced the following
program: Piano Duo. Mrs. J.H.
Austin and Mrs. Hugh Lowe; Two
choral selections by an ensemble.
directed by Miss Maude Poole; a
piano solo by Mrs. Jeff Davis. The
program concluded with a sing-a
long directed by several members of
the club.
Out of town guests included Mrs.
H.C. McLauchlin of Charlotte and
Dunn3"41 MrS' Le?" McKa> of
Hostesses for the meeting were
Mrs. Robert Calhoun. Mrs. Julius
Jordan and Misses Betty Odom and
Linda Stanton.

Installs President
The Raeford Woman's Club met
Tuesday, May 11th. at the Hoke
Civic Center. Mrs. Clayton Buoyer,
President, presided. Annual re
ports were given by Department
and Special Committee chairmen.
A letter of thanks from Mrs. Mary
Archie McNeill for the clubs parti?
cipation in the celebration of the
Arts was read by the secretary. The
club voted to dedicate its 1982-83
Yearbook to Mrs. Lawrence Mc
Neill who has faithfully served in
numerous capacities for many
years. Mrs. Charles Hostetler in
stalled the following officers: Presi
dent, Mrs. Jack Pope; Treasurer,
Mrs. Earnest Fant; and Chairman
of the Garden Dept.. Mrs. Georg^-%
King. Mrs. Pope presented a
Past- President's pin to the outgoing
president. The Arts Dept. hosted a
social hour following the business
meeting.

On Saturday, May 15th Becky
Coker and Russell Smith, Martht
Ann Wood and Andy Brown were
honored at a cookout by the
coaching and Administrative staff
of Hoke County High School at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Raz Autry.
Upon arrival the brides-elect
were presented corsages of daisies.
A buffet dinner of .hamburgers^
hot dogs, slaw, baked beans, Greelr
salad, homemade ice cream and
cake were served. Guests dined on
the screened porch where tables
covered with gingham cloths were
arranged.
The honorees were given ice
cream freezers by the hosts.
