Special Olympic Tenners Named With the lun coming out last week to shine on the special athletes involved in the Hoke County Special Olympics, everyone was happy and en thusiastic about the day's events. Along with the fun and excite ment of the day, there was also a lot of hard work. National Net Income Up Southern National Corporation announced that its net operating income (income before securities transactions) amounted to S1.8S0.824 for the quarler ended March 31, 1983, as compared to $1,643,041 for the first quarter of 1982. On a per share basis, this amounted to 51.10 in 1983, as compared to $.96 in 1982. During the first quarter of 1983, the Company continued its previously announced program of restructuring various portions of its investment portfolio. This ac tion resulted in an after tax loss of $194,559 on the sale of securities. T ? \ /CT a Missy Tyndall Miss FMA Crowned On Wednesday night, April 20, the elegant historic auditorium of Flora Macdonald Academy was the site of the crowning of Miss FMA of 1983. In a pageant sponsored by the current senior class of the academy. Miss Missy Tyndall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Tyndall of Red Springs, became the first Miss FMA. Mr. Gene Melvin, class president, placed the crown on the dark haired beauty and presented her with a bouquet of roses. Named first runner-up was Miss Ruth Bodenheimer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bodenheimer also of Red Springs. Mr. Kelly Odom, class vice-president, presented Ruth with a loving cup and roses. Miss Julie Webb, second runner up and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Webb of Parkton, received a cup and roses from Mr. Jeffrey Martin, class treasurer. As a result of votes cast by all contestants, Miss Nellie Hender son, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henderson of Maxton, was named Miss Congeniality. Presen ting Miss Henderson with a cup was Mr. Tim Parnell. Mr. Sam Cain acted as masier of ceremonies for the pageant which featured 18 contestants in day and evening wear. The judges were Mrs. Connie Smith, a teacher of home economics at Anne Chestnutt Junior High in Fayetteville; Miss Donna Smith, a radio and televi sion broadcasting major at Central Carolina; and Mr. Alan Mec Donald, a technical director for the Fayetteville Little Theatre. During judging intermissions Mr. Lee McGirt delighted the au dience "with two popular songs. He was accompanied on the piano by his sister Miss Cynthia McGirt, a member of the senior class.
