Debra Lynne Bailey Bailey -Brown SGM and Mrs. Charles Wesley Bailey announce the engagement of their daughter, Debra Lynne, to Velton Brown son of Doris Brown of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Willie Brown of Yonkers, New York. The wedding is planned for July 2, 1983 at Faith Chapel in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Debra is a graduate of East Carolina University with a Masters Degree in Adult Education. She is employed by Cashiers Training In stitute in New York. Velton at tended ECU and is now a student of Five Towns College in Seaford, Long Island. He is employed as a teacher at Church of Our Savior in Yonkers, New York. Maxwell-Vaughn Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Hord announce the engagement of their daughter, Linda Warwick Max well, to John Dickson Alton Vaughn. The wedding will take place July 2, at McPherson Presbyterian Church. Ms. Maxwell is a graduate of Hoke County High School, attend ed Campbell University, and is employed with Cameron-Brown Ins. Agency in Fayetteville. Mr. Vaughn graduated with a BS from the University of South Carolina, and received his MED from Campbell University. He is presently employed as a Psychologist with the Cliffdale Psychiatric Clinic, Fayetteville, N.C. He is the son of Dr. Ruth D. Martin of Fayetteville. Karen Lynne Patterson Patterson - West Karen Lynne Patterson and James Donald West will exchange marriage vows on August 28, at First Baptist Church in Raeford. Ms. Patterson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy M. Johnston of 304 West "A" Street, Erwin, N.C. She is presently employed as a cashier at the A&P in Raeford and will attend Sandhills Community College in the fall. Mr. West is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Alton West of Route 5, Raeford, N.C. He is Produce Manager at the A&P in Raeford. Daughters Of Confederacy Hold Meeting The Raeford United Daughters of the Confederacy Chapter met Friday June 10 at the Hoke County Library. Mrs. Lillian Wood presid rd. The devotion was led by Mrs. Aline Wright. The president led the ritual and allegiance to the flag. Final plans were made for the luncheon to be held on June 24. The nomination committee presented the following slate of new officers: First Vice President, Mrs. Marie Lee; Second Vice President, Mrs. Lillian Wood; and Recorder of Crosses, Mrs. Kathleen Jones. The program, "Jefferson Davis: End of the Confederate Govern ment" was presented by Mrs. Grace Malone. Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Koonce were hostesses during the social hour. N.C. (h Births Mr. and Mrs. Dale Jones of Charlotte announce the birth of a daughter Lindsay Kathleen on June 6 at Presbyterian Hospital of Charlotte. Mrs. Jones is the former Judy Matthews of Dunedin, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Scarboro and Holly announce the birth of a daughter and sister, Kerry Aman da, on June 3. Kerry is the gran daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Faircloth of Raeford and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Scarboro of Aberdeen. She is the great-grandaughter of Mrs. Virginia Faircloth of Roseland . European Trip Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Frederick, Mrs. Debbie Frederick and Lori and Mrs. Garry Frederick returned home Friday after a two week visit with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Conoly and Lynn in Zweibruken, Germany. Mrs. Conoly is the former Jan Frederick and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Frederick. While visiting with the Conolys, the Frederick family visited eight countries. They toured places of interest in Belgium, Austria, Lit chenstein, France, Luxembourg, Holland, Germany and Switzerland. In Switzerland the party stayed in a private home. Mr. Frederick celebrated his birthday on June 5 and was honored with a Swiss bir thday party. He was guest at a Swiss Fondu dinner with all the trimmings. After returning to the states on June 9 at Baltimore/Washington Airport the party was welcomed by Dale Norton, brother of Mrs. Garry Frederick. Everyone en joyed an evening in Washington, D.C. before returning to Raeford on Friday. The bridal couple cut the first slice from the four tiered cake which was decorated with lavender roses. Each tier was adorned with flowers consisting of lavender and white roses, wheat, lavender carnations, and allium. Misses Hope ToLr of Princeton and Annette Schmitt of Rocky Mount, served the cake. Punch was served by Miss Sally Maxwell of Raeford, and Miss Crystal Jones of Garner. Assisting in serving were Miss Ann Richards, Miss Meredith Warren, Miss Kim Colston and Miss Carol Colston. Guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Willis Sellars and goodbyes were said by Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Dees, uncle of the groom. The guest register was kept by the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Robert Ritter. REHEARSAL DINNER Mrs. Julian Barnes entertained the wedding party with a dinner party at the Lob Steer Inn in ? - Southern Pines on Saturday night after the rehearsal. Thirty three guests were present. BRIDESMAIDS' LUNCHEON On Saturday Mrs. Willis Sellars and her daughter Jane Collier, Sylvia Liestman, Delia Gilmore and Catherine McNeill (all in absentia) hosted a luncheon for Miss Gay Ivey, her bridesmaids, and special guests at the home of Mrs. John W. Walker. The enter taining rooms were decorated with spring flowers. The honoree's table, covered with a white cloth crisscrossed with pink ribbons, was centered with a beautiful arrangement of pink roses. Small bouquets of mixed spring flowers centered the side tables. Sixteen guests enjoyed the delicious three-course meal, after which Miss Ivey presented gifts to her attendants. A gift of crystal in her chosen pattern was given Miss Ivey by the hostesses. Ken and Cecelia Weston and Wayne and Frances Byrd of Raeford aboard the luxurious Emerald Seas sailing from downtown Miami to the Bahamas. Photo was taken poolside, just before departure. Passengers en joyed the outdoor French cafe, discotheque, beautiful lounges, staterooms complete with closed circuit t. v. and music, all meals aboard ship.
