AL ANON - Meetings are held every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Hoke County Health Department Conference Room. September I AGRICULTURE FOUNDA TION ? A meeting of the membership of the North Carolina Agricultural Founda tion will be held at 7:00 p.m., September I in the Hoke County Agricultural Extension office on South Magnolia Street. The Foundation membership is made up of per sons who buy feed or fertilizer. The By-Laws of the North Carolina Agricultural Founda tion, Inc. provide that the Board of Directors be made up of representatives from each of the 100 counties in North Carolina. A director serves a four-year term without the privilege of succeeding oneself. The director from Hoke Coun ty, Earl Hendrix. will complete the fourth year term this fall. Therefore, the Foundanon members are requested to meet on September I, to nominate a person to serve. The nominee should be a farmer, extension homemaker. or other user of feed and or fertilizer, and selection should be made without regard to sex or race. The third annual cham pionship, is expected to attract more than 70 auctioneers and as many as 50,000 people. Sept. 10-11 LITERACY WEEK - Hoke Reading/ Literacy Council will celebrate "Literacy Week," September 3, through II. On Saturday September 10, Hoke Reading/ Literacy Council will sponsor a program in Edin borough Shopping Center that will include speakers along with a bake and soft drink sale with door prizes given away hourly. On Sunday, September II, Hoke Reading/ Literacy Coun cil will hold a reception for the Tutor and Student of the Year in Hoke County Public Library at 3 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Morning ser vices will begin at 11:00 a.m. Afternoon services at 4 p.m. I - thru Sept. 25 FAYETTEVILLE MUSEL'M - The color paintings of North Carolina native Ruth Blackwell Rogers open the fall season at the Fayetteville Museum of Art in an exhibition scheduled for thru September 25. The artist works with acrylic paints on unprimed. unstretched raw canvas in a technique called "staining." thru September 17 "OKLAHOMA" - The musical opens at the Bordeaux Dinner Theatre in Fayetteville on Saturday, July 23. It will then play Wednesday through Sunday evenings for an eight week run. Call early for reser vations for this uniquely American Rodgers and Ham merstein musical. A delicious gourmet buffet dinner is served prior to the show. Prices are reasonable and senior citizen and group rates are available. A German festival will be held Oct. 9 from noon to 5 p.m. on Green Street and Cross Creek Park in downtown Fayetteville near Market Square to celebrate the 300th anniversary of German settlement in America. The festival will feature continuous entertainment, international foods, crafts and goods, games of nations and a parade ESD OF SUMMER Caro winds returns to a weekends-only operating schedule beginning Saturday, Aug. 27. The last weekday of summer operation is Thursday, Aug. 2S. The 77 -acre theme park will he open every weekend t Saturdays and Sundays ) from Aug. 27 through Oct. 9. when Carowinds closes for the 1983 sum mer season.
