So these endorsements aren't always an assurance of quality or durabili ty School clothes that don't break budget Stylish clothes that fit well are important to children. But without proper planning, keeping children clothed can be a financial disaster. Put the most money into the clothing which will be worn and washed often. Make certain seams are sewn uniformly and that the stitches are not too long. Check button holes and see that they are not raveling. On fabrics that will ravel, make certain the seams are overcast. Look for reinforcement at the knees and pockets and for flat, smooth, well-matched seams. Children who are growing rapid ly do not need an excessive amount of clothes. Stretch a child's ward robe by buying clothes that are seasonless. Look for growth features, such as adjustable shoulder straps, deep hems, undefined waistlines in one-piece garments and roomy armholes. It's safest to always have the child try on a new garment. If this is impractical, purchase garments by current measurements and weight. Carry a card with each child's measurements and take a measur ing tape to check the dimensions of the garments. Allendale-Antioch Extension Homemaker Mrs. Edna McGougan shared this easy recipe. It is good for a meat loaf or for stuffing peppers. 1 lb. ground beef 1 egg 1 can Spanish rice 1 onion Mix all ingredients. Bake at 350? for 1 hour. Creamy Mustard Sauce 1 cup (1/2 pt.) sour cream 1 tablespoon prepared mustard 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon instant minced onions 2 teaspoons steak sauce Combine all ingredients in bowl, blending well. Chill. Makes 1 cup sauce or about 8 servings. Sweet And Sour Chicken 1/4 cup all-purpose flour dash pepper 2 tablespoons cooking oil 18 1/4 oz. can crushed pineapple 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 2 1/2 to 3-lb. broiler-fryer chicken cut up 1/2 cup bottled barbecue sauce Hot cooked rice Combine flour, salt, and pepper; coat chicken. In 10-inch skillet, brown chicken, half at a time, in hot oil. Return all chicken to skillet. Combine undrained pineapple, barbecue sauce, and ginger, add to chicken. Cover and simmer about 30 minutes or till chicken is tender. Serve with hot cooked rice. Serves 6. Hint Fresh eggs can be kept in the refrigerator in the carton with the large end up for up to 5 weeks. mr ar . John F. Nicholson, Jr. Nicholson Named VP At Northwestern John F.
