Miss Gentry, Mr, HendrixWed Sunday Marsha Elizabeth Gentry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Marshall Gentry of Raeford, and Samuel Lee Hendrix Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Lee Hendrix of Raeford, were united in mar riage Sunday, December 18 at a candlelight ceremony at the Raeford United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. The Reverend Arthur Winstead officiated ' the double ring ceremony. ; Two Chrismon trees flanked the entrance to the church altar. The altar was centered with a basket of red poinsettias, flanked by two fifteen-branched candelabrum, two seven-branched and two nine branched candelabrum holding white tapers. A single trinity can dle also graced the altar and was lit by the bride and groom after their vows were spoken. Garlands of Christmas greenery and red velvet bows decorated the choir rails. Hurricane globes, with lighted candles and Christmas greenery, were used to mark the mother's pews and church windows. A program of nuptial music was presented by Mrs. Glenn Langdon, organist, and Miss Amy Hcm mens, soloist. "The Wedding Prayer" and "Entreat Me Not To Leave Thee," were sung. Matthew Warren and Britt Ber nhardt served as acolytes. The bride, escorted by her father, chose a formal gown of candlelight peau de soir with a high neckline and bodice featuring a long torso waistline, appliqued with alencon lace, pearls and opalescents, fitting closely to the bodice and waist. The full bouf fant sleeves were bell top with fit ted cuff of alencon lace. The A-line skirt with a cathedral train, trimmed with alencon lace, had seed buttons down the back. She wore a juliet cap, appliqued with alencon lace, pearls, and opalescents. The veil of illusion was attached to the cap and trimm ed with pearl and lace edging. She carried a nosegay of white roses with Christmas greenery. Mrs. Gary Gentry of Cary, sister-in-law of the bride, attended as matron of honor. She wore a formal gown of red taffeta with embroidered bodice and shirred puff sleeves. The sweeping skirt was tied with a fabric belt in a bow at the back. She carried a nosegay of miniature red carnations and holly. We Will Be Open Until 9 P.M. Thru Friday, December 23rd Merry Christmas Theresa's Main St. Raeford Shop ^Raeford First Miss Sue Hendrix of Raleigh, Mrs. Marie Hendrix Hasty of Greensboro, sisters of the groom, Miss Elizabeth Stewart of Chris tiansburg, VA, cousin of the bride, Miss Eleanor Barnes of Greensboro and Mrs. Erskine Belts of Sanford attended as bridesmaids. They wore gowns and carried nosegays identical to the matron of honor. Shannon O'Briant of Burl ington, served as flower girl. She wore a gown of white taffeta with a red sash. A circlet of holly and miniature red and white flowers was worn in her hair. She carried a miniature basket of rose petals. Samuel Lee Hendrix served as his son's best man. Ushers were Gary Gentry of Cary, Mark Gen try of Raeford, brothers of the bride, Lewis Metcalf of Kingsville, MD, brother-in-law of the groom, Gary Hendrix of Raeford, cousin of the groom, Erskine Betts of Sanford and Chris Huff of Aber deen. The groom and his attendants wore grey cutaway tuxedos with silver vest and tie and red rose boutonnieres. The mother of the bride wore a full length romance blue georgette gown with long sleeves and a high neckline of shirred fabric forming a yoke. The mother of the groom wore a full length teal blue crepe gown with pleated collar and cuffs and a braided belt. Both mothers wore red roses. Mrs. Julian McKellar, grand mother of the groom, wore a blue gown with a white rose corsage. Mrs. Lawrence Bounds directed the wedding. RECEPTION HELD A reception, hosted by the bride's parents, was held in the church fellowship hall following the wedding ceremony. Guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. James McPhaul. The refreshment table was centered with a five-branched candelabrum holding lighted tapers, red flowers and greenery. The wedding cake was circled with greenery and topped with a miniature bride and groom, which had been used on the wedding cake of the bride's parents. Mrs. Carlton Niven, Mrs. Bill Garrett and Mrs. Sidney O'Briant, aunts of the bride, poured punch. Mrs. Charles Stewart, III, and Mrs. James Stewart, aunts of the bride, cut and served the cake, after the bride and groom had cut the first slice. The bride's book was kept by Mrs. Lewis Metcalf, sister of the groom. Court and Jamie Stewart distributed bridal bird seed bags. Goodbyes were said by Mr. and Mrs. Randall Ashburn. Following the reception the cou ple left for a honeymoon in the North Carolina Mountains. For traveling the bride wore a red wool suit with matching accessories. Upon their return, the couple will reside in Raeford. REHEARSAL DINNER A rehearsal dinner, hosted by the groom's parents, was held Saturday evening following the rehearsal at the Edinborough Restaurant for members of the wedding party. The prospective groom presented his groomsmen with gifts during the evening. BRIDESMAIDS LUNCHEON Mrs. W.T. Gibson and Mrs. Carlton Niven were hostesses at a bridesmaid luncheon at the home of Mrs. Niven, Saturday, December 17 at 12:30 p.m. Guests were served hot sliced fruit juice and cheese biscuits upon arrival. They were seated at tables, covered with white cloths and centered with arrangements of red poinsettias and greenery, for the two-course luncheon. The bride-elect was presented a corsage and a gift from the hostesses. She chose this occasion to present her attendants with gifts. Mrs. Cameron Honored At Tea Mrs. Dorothy Cameron was honored last Thursday afternoon with a tea at the home of Mrs. Jack Burgess. The Hoke County Library Board of Trustees and the Hoke County Library Staff hosted the tea. Guests were greeted by Mrs. Ed na McNeill, chairman of othe Trustees. Mrs. Anna Lee Maxwell poured punch. Mrs. Cameron will retire from her work at the Hoke County Public Library on December 31. Mrs. Cameron has worked in the library for 30 years. She will be missed by the staff and the com munity. Mrs. Cameron was remembered with a silver tray by the trustees and staff. Several others remembered her with gifts. Segrest of Charlotte were united in mar riage Saturday, December 3 at 5 p.m. in the Raeford First Baptist Church. The Rev. Billy Beaver of ficiated the double ring ceremony. The church was decorated with two nine-branch candelabra filled with mixed pink and mauve carna tions, nerine, freesia, dianthus, omithogalun and alstroemeria lilies. The trinity altar was flanked by two fifteen-branched candelabra and featured ivory pillar candles and greenery. Two seven-branched candelabra sat in the front windows of the church with a multitude of elf tapers. The mothers' pews were marked with candles in hurricane globes. The foyer of the church was lit with candles in hurricane globes. A program of wedding music was provided by organist, Mrs. Glenn Langdon and soloist, Mrs. Terri Parker. Featured songs were "If", "1 Pledge My Love" and "O' Promise Me." The candles in the sanctuary were lit by Joe Neel and David Segrest . The bride, escorted by her father, wore an ivory lace organza gown featuring silk venise lace and schiffli embroidery and chantilly lace. The bodice featured a high Victorian neck, sheer yoke, and studded pearls. The gown was ac cented by full bishop sleeves that were tightly cuffed and ruffled. She wore a chapel length train edg ed with chantilly lace with a match ing silk venise hat richly decorated with silk roses, studded with pearls, french puff of illusion and chapel length tulle streamers. She carried a bouquet of pink silk sweetheart roses, phalaenopsis, or chids and gypsophila. Mrs. Phyllis Roberts served as matron of honor and Miss Kathie Hust attended as maid of honor. Sandy Tucker, Kim Fluffman, Patricia Crowder and Robin Bond served as bridesmaids. They wore burgandy taffeta gowns with a yoke of schiffli lace and dropped off shoulders with full sleeves. The bodice was gathered and accented with a bow. The skirt was also gathered. They wore hats of Queen Anne chiffon with rolled chiffon around the edge. The hats were tied with satin cords. Ashley Shaw Roberts, niece of the bride, served as flower girl. Kevin Winter attended as ringbearer. Bill Murray of Charlotte attend ed as best man. Ushers were David Segrest of Charlotte, Alden Segrest of Charlotte, Russ Downs of Raleigh, Joe Neel of Charlotte and Larry Hudson of Mooresville. The groom and his attendants wore pearl grey tuxedos by Bill Blass. The bride's mother wore a floor length gown of beige crepe. The gown featured a- pleated front bodice and a high neck chemise collar. The skirt was gathered and accented with a sash. There were sequins between the pleats in the gown. The groom's mother wore a aqua street length gown with a gathered skirt and long sleeves. A sash accented the dress. The wedding was directed by Mrs. Dayne Crumpler of Raeford. Following the wedding ceremony, the bride's parents hosted a reception in the church fellowship hall. Following a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach, the couple will reside at 209 North Jackson Street in Raeford. REHEARSAL DINNER The groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner Friday, December 2 at the Sheraton in Southern Pines. Approximately 50 guests attend ed the dinner. The groom chose this time to present his attendants their gifts. BRIDESMAIDS' LUNCHEON A luncheon for the bride and her attendants was hosted by Mrs. Jack Tucker, Mrs. Suzanne Ramsey and Mrs. Terry Frahm at the home of Mrs. Tucker on December 3, at 1 p.m. The sixteen guests were seated for lunch in the dining room and living room. The hostessess presented the bride with a blender during the luncheon. The bride also chose this time to present her attendants with gifts.
