A Myriad of events on tap for Saturday's Fun Day, The Agricultural Extension Ser vice, in cooperation with other agencies, is sponsoring a Family Fun Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gibson Gym at Hoke High School. The event is planned to involve the whole family in celebrating Family Focus Week. There will be a brief opening ceremony at 10 a.m. with the High School ROTC presenting colors and part of the High School Choral Group singing the Star Spangled Banner. Extension will then give a welcome and introduction to the day. Several choral groups will per form during the day. The schedule is: ? 10:15 - Turlington Chorus ?10:30 - Scurlock 4th Grade Chorus -11:00 - West Hoke 4th Grade Chorus -11:30 - Hoke High Choral Groups - 1:00 - Hoke Charge - Methodist Church (skit) The following exhibits are also planned: Extension Service: Home Economics - Color for You and Expanded Foods and Nutrition. 4-H and Camping - Stencilling - live demonstration from 10-12 noon and Face Painting - people may come by from 10-12 to have their face painted. Agriculture - Beekeeping, Gardening and Conserving Energy in the Home. Health Department: Infant Car Seats and School Dentist. Story hours at 10:IS a.m. and 1:40 p.m. (outside) Boy Scouts Glri Scouts Job Security Raeford Police Department: Bicycle Safety and Registration Hoke County Sheriffs Depart ment: Drug and Alcohol Use and Abuse Rescue Sqaid The schools will be holding preregistration for kindergarten, and the Young Extension Homemakers will be fingerprinting children so parents can keep a record. Parents wishing to register their children for kindergarten during the day should bring the child's birth certificate. There will be a drawing for a free trip to 4-H camp for youth 9-13 at 2 p.m. Persons may register at the 4-H booth from 10 - 2 p.m. From 10:30 to 2 p.m. there will be fun and games for the whole family outside. The Hoke County Parks and * Recreation Department will pro vide activities such as three legged and potato sack races, relays, in dependent activities such as cro quet and horseshoes, and numerous other activities. Bring the whole family and spend some time at the Family Fun Day. ? Crisis course offered at Sandhills The Division of Continuing Education at Sandhills Communi ty College will offer a new course this April entitled "When Bad Things Happen to Good People: Coping With Life's Misfortunes." The Course will draw on material form the best-selling book by the same title by Harold Kushner, and on other material. The intent of the course is to provide a variety of techniques and methods for use in the various crisis situations in our lives. Instructor Bob Katrin is a counselor, experienced group leader, and educator currently employed by the College as an in structor in the Human Services Technology Program. This class will meet on Monday nights from 7-9:30 p.m. in Room 1S2 of the Kennedy Building on the Sandhills campus. Students may register on April S, from 2-8 p.m. in the Kennedy Building or at the first class meeting on April 9. The registration fee is $10. North Carolina residents age 65 or older are not charged tuition. hi! Bob Katrin A Juried Black and White Photography Show Sponsored by The News-Journal Picture North Carolina will be held May 5 in conjunction with the Hoke County Heritage Hobnob Festival. The event will be open to both professional and amateur photographers who are residents of North Carolina. ?The contest will include five categories: Landscape (including seascapes) sponsored by United Carolina Bank, Historical North Carolina (sponsored by Heritage Federal Savings), Wildlife (sponsored by Southeast Production Credit Assoc.). Creative (sponsored by the Hoke County Chamber of Commerce), and People (sponsored by the Hoke County Public Library). ?All photographs must include, on the back, the name, address and phone number of the maker, and must be signed by the maker and titled. No photographs will be accepted which have been signed and titled on the front of the print. ?All historical category photographs must give the location and description of the subject. ?All prints must have been exposed by the maker, but can be processed either personally or commercially. ?All prints must be matted, but not framed. Mat boards should be no larger than 16x20 and not smaller than 8x10. Photographers are limited to six prints. A fee of $1 per print should accompany each entry. ?All entries must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with enough postage to cover the return of the prints. ?Tilt Southeastern National Bank $150 Purchlif Award will be awarded to the photograph judged to be the best entry in the show. ?Prises of $50 each will be awarded to photographers judged to have the best print in each of the categories. A photographer may win the purchase award and a category award for the same print. ?Honorable Mention awards of $10 will also be given. ?All entries must be received by April 30. ?Judging, by three members of The Photographic Society of America or other qualified judges, will be conducted May 5. Winners will be announced May 5. ?All entries will be displayed at the Hoke County Library, May 6 to June 1. ?The hlews-Journal assumes no liability for prints which are lost or damaged. ?The News-Journal also reserves the right to publish any or all of the winning or honorable mention prints.
