Books for Bucks Students at Sandy Grove Elementary collected well over 100 Books for the Bucks, a program started at Hoke High by the Christian Fellowship Club to put books in classroom libraries. The East Hoke Middle School Battle of the Books team defeated West Hoke Middle Tuesday night of last week during the County Battle held at West Hoke Middle School. East Hoke will compete in the Regional Battle of the Books on April 3 in Harnett County. Region 4 - Sandhills Region consists of Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Moore, New Hanover, and Robeson County Schools as well as Clinton and Whiteville City Schools, Team members are John Cook, Connor Rodreguez, Jayson Calvo, Jaimee Decatur, Sierra Hollis and Trinia Cox. Reading is Fundamental Students from the AIG program recently presented a play to second graders at Sandy Grove for RIF (Reading is Fundamental). They wrote and stagedthe play themselves for a grade while promoting reading. Cast members are from left, Chelsea Williams, Lakyra Farmer, Michael Rosenberry, Michaela Smith-Hendricks and En’Daca Tillman. Doing lunch with the children Sheriff Hubert Peterkin, accompanied by some of his deputies, and a state Highway Patrol trooper visited with students at Sandy Grove Elementary. School board members, Tom Pilkington, William Hollingsworth III Russell Smith and Leland Strother also dined.
