COTTON OFF AGAIN ALL - DE PENDS on onis usujufB, Special to the Observer. New Tork. Jan. 28. No Important change in the situation and a slight de cline in prices is tne recora oi tne cot ton market far the day. Liverpool ca bled a decline of 1-64 in futures tnis morning, but onset this by reporting spot sales of 14,000 bales. Our market opened 2 points higher on the near months and unchanged on the late. It soon became apparent that there were few orders In the market and moderate selling -for New Orleans account was the chief depressing factor of the day. The lighter movement and the good de mand for spot cotton served as a sup port to prices. and a check upon tne enthusiasm of short sellers. March opened at 7.10. the highest price of the day, and slowly sagged until the close. which was ouiet and steaay ax 7.uv 7.06 for March. All eyes are watching the movement of supplies with intense interest, and upon that movement the course of the market, in the near fu ture, will hang. RIORDANrXfc. i ANOTHER DECLINE IN WHEAT. Chicago, June 28. -A very feeble re action of c per bushel from 'yester day's closing was the best the wheat market could do to-day towards the re covery of the decline recorded - this week. Even then this small gain' was not maintained, as the market became very weak shortly after noon, and de clined 2c per bushel. The speculative demand has indeed been very meagre. From the light character of the buying it would appear as though shorts had bought pretty much all they wanted on yesterday's slump, and later events proved that some large traders who had partly covered their lines were sellers again this morning. This started-the decline, and as the wheat market grew considerable long wheat came out, es pecially below 76c There was some cash business reported, and sales for the past few days have amounted to about 225,000 bushels. New Tork wired that exporters bad taken 150,000 bush els of Manitoba wheat. And California messages claim that three cargoes were sold to France and a Sour cargo to Australia. These reports, however, had no more than a temporary influence on prices, merely steadying the - market, without creating any demand. The heavy liquidation and the easy manner in which snorts have been enabled to cover their Hnes clearly demonstrates the very bearish -local feeling and the lack of confidence among holders. It looks like lower prices to-morrow. There has been consiaeraDie ouying of corn by the local traders which has held prices steaay. clearances were large, nearly 400,000 bushels. Receipts were smalt The sample market was a trifle higher. Provisions were arm eany on tne con tinued llxrht receipts- of hogs, but the market gave way later on local , selling and in sympathy with the decline in wheat, XAMSOlt BaOS. & CO. STOCK EXCHANGE REPORT. Prices lyielded but' the losses--were soon recovered. only to be followed by another decline, which left the leading stocks fraction ally below brst idght's nnal.
