Foreigners Baying Wheat snd Look for Higher Prices on Both Cotton and Wheat. Special to Journal. Nsw York, July 18. Sugar wbb again the all important feature of the market. The advance to the neighborhood of 138 breaks all previous records. We think that the top is in sight. The other trust stocks"werc strong in sympathy. The legitimate market is strong on railway earnings and is going higher. Cotton occupies a strong position, the Government crop report is now digested and the conservative houses agree with foreigners that higher prices are. war ranted. Wheat is advancing on the absorption by foreigners end by the elevator people of all offerings. The visible supply is small and we look for considerable advance and we think that the farmers will get better prices for cotton and wheat. We look for higher markets tomorrow. II. W. Silsby & l,o. Euworth League Convention at Toronto. Relief of Cool Weather. Case of Graham. Conductors Excnrsion to Norfolk. JOUKNAL BUHEAU. I Raleioii, N. C July 13. ( The R. R. commission is still in sess ion hearing the different representatives of railroads, steamboats, telegraph and telephone companies. The arguments for and against the assessments and reduction of rates before the R. K. commission yesterday were pretty snappy. There were present a very largo delegation of prominent rail road men. Tho communications of Judge Clark and Joseph us Daniels were long. Among the cases disposed of before tho Criminal court here at its present sitting was the case of ex-cnrolling clerk Swiuson vs. II. W. Aycr, State auditor. The auditor was given until September 1st to file his answer. Berry Oook, who killed a woman and Tom Terrell who killed John Gill will stand trial for their lives. There are 39 prisoners in jail to stand trial, and 112 cases were dock eted. The N. C. delegates to the Epworth League convention to bo held at Toronto left here yesterday. There were thirty six and they were under tho care of ltev. N. Cole of Durham. A special Epworth League Flyer from Atlanta with 400 delegates passed here. The present pleasant weather is prom ised to last for several days. It is cer tninly a relief to have the thermometer up to only 82 degrees in comparison to the 08 degrees and 100 degrees register of last week. In the case of J. L. Graham clerk to Superintendent of Public Instrcution who was convicted of burning bis home nt Newton, the verdict was for "misde meanor" not for arson, and he was fined $300. A enmpetive examination for the Bingham scholarship will be held here August 1 1. The members of the chamber of com mcrce are called to attend an important mectins this evening. The next meeting will be for the election of new officers. The statement of Governor Uussell lie fore the R. It. commission was an able one, anil fnr surpassed that or either Judge Clark or Mr. Daniels. The railroad people say: that the people arc not dc inanding an increase of valuation and reduction of. rates, that the rates are now lower than in most states; and that rail road properly is assessed higher than other property. 'The conductors excursion" which left here at 10:30 this morning was one of the largest that ever pulled out from here- There were about 1200 on board It went direct to Norfolk. Speaker Hileman and Lt. Gov. Rey nolds came down to attend tho Swinson suit which as was stated above was con tinned until Sept. Weekly Crop Bulletin. The crop bulletin for week ending July 12th, 1807, says: "The weather during the week has generally been very favor able for the growth of croos. Over fpor- lions of 17 out of 98 counties of the Slate drought has continued, seriously in. juring crops, but over the remainder of the State local rains were frequent, with plenty of sunshine and warm, but not excessively hot, weather. Ootton has improved remarkably; some flelds are white with blooms; it is boiling well The chief complaints about corn are its small size and bad stand in the east aud lateness In the west portion of the State, Curing bottom tobacco leaves continues. Peanuts bloominc and spreading; canta loupes and watermelons are ripe; grapes an rotting to some extent. Eastern District. Drought has con. tinued to prevail In a few counties, es pecially Pitt, Pender. Robeson, portions of Brunswick. Duplin and Craven, with injury to corn and gardens, but over the large portion of the district the weather durl g the week was very flnet warm wire frequent showers, causing all crops too well. Farmers are np with work crops clean and growing nicely. Cotton la floe; blooming everywhere; boiling well in south; much has been layed by. Corn improved where showers fell early enough, but early corn cannot ho ma terially improved, and the crop will be short, more rain needed. Tobacco not altogether promising, bat making larger growthi lower leaves being cured. Pea nuts blooming and spreading fast. Rice looks well; about layed by. Peas, sweet potatoes and melons fine. Cantaloupes and watermelons in market - Fruit gen erally scarce. Moat farmer are done! seeding peas, which are green and growing. ,:. , . Latest lews noma. Beyond the strengthening " of the miners' lines along the riven, then, was little change in the strike situation. The usual celebration in commemors tion nf the tattle of the Boyne took place1 in Dublin. Twenty thousand Orangemen marched In procession an great crowds filled the streets. The last open session of the Christian Endenvorers was held on Monday in San Francisco. The attendance at the Honi ng and afternoon meetings was large, mil at night those who managed to ob tain entrance to either of the main meet ing places were fortunate, for only 25,00 could be accommodated and 10,000 more sought admission.
