Bmm Airway Kael r.r Simla. - The Oaks Driving Club is busily at work in preparing for its races next mouth. . Work is being continued on the racetrack, to get it into perfect shape, and it will be all right for the great event of next month. ' Secretary Reizenstein says the five thousand dollars offered in pnrses is an attraction wnicn boree owners find it impossible to resist, and the outlook is for full entries in every race. '. That the interest is extending, is shown by the fact that rooms have already been engaged here in one of the hotels by expected visitors, who do not propose to be so situated as to have to take any chances by delay ing. It is over thirty days before the races take place, but every thing is going ahead preparatory for this greatest event of the vear. S&NCTIFIOATION AT TRENTON, Mny Pro fern te Believe. Crowds ! The happy event took place on the 15th. nst. J. 1). Herritage, J. P. officia ting. The farmers claim that their cot ton, and in fact all crops are very much injured by the drouth. Cot ton it is claimed will not be ever two thirds of a crop. Bale cotton is coming in slowly as our farmers appear not to be an xious to place on the market at present prices, 45 bales were sold here on Friday last. Mr. Nick Leary is spending a few days in Trenton, his old home. We on't know whether Nick claims Trenton as his home now or not as he has been several months at Mays- ville and will return again on Fri day next. Irenton has been foil of people for the last few days, attending the protracted meetings held by the Rev. Mr. Crumpler. The counties of Lenoir, Craven, Onslow, Duplin and Carteret were here and a real out pouring from every nook and corner of Jones county. At the night meetings the tent was crowded. A large number have joined tho sanctification band and claim that they were wholly sancti bed. Some claim that thev had been church members for years and thought that they were Christians but have now found that they were not. I would like to venture my opin ion that this class who were so badly mistaken mistook conviction for conversion and joined the church but now.have been really converted and find such a difference that they really believe that they have the real second blessing. Mr. Crumpler on Sunday last de livered the best temperance address 1 ever heard in all my life. Ue called upon all who desired its ban islmient to help him by their votes at the next election to come op and give niui tneir nana. Of course nearly two thirds of the crowd gave aim their bands, but several who gave their hands were around at the bars next day banishing it from the bottles by taking many drams. We do really believe if tbe vote could have been taken light at the meet ing however that wbisky would have been loft by a nine tenths vote. The address was certainly an able one and will bo productive of much good, especially among onr young men. We have never seen a more order ly crowd, every body appeared to try to hear every word of the preach er and they gave him the Tory best attention. We learn that the meeting will close tonight as he has other appoint ments to attend. It appears that of the old church members who hays heretofore been real pillars of the church, many of whom have been to the altor seek ing sanctification and say that they have received it, nine claimed to profess it one night. ' Some have been in trances. We most aay thst we have lived here 60 years and never have seen the like before, Trenton has never received such a shaking np before. Aycock,' of Goldsboro, familiarly known to eyery one as "Charlie" Ayoock, will ba glad to know that he has been ap pointed by President MoKinley, United States District Attorney for the Eastern District of North Caro lina, to succeed himself. : . His appoiutment is most compli mentary, and shows the respect and esteem in which he is held by his political enemies, who honor him by keeping him in an office over which they have control, and from which the ordinary incumbent wobld be quickly sent out. Death of Mrs. e. E. Collier. Mrs. Caroline Elizabeth Collier, widow of the late Colonel Geo. W.
