A. rain comes the report from Raleigh thet.tht Legltlature will not grant the Press o' the State a jutt and protective !ibl law. Thlt attempt of the Prest to escure a libel law, seems to be the old stcry re peated, ttt reqnett It treated with con tempt, itt bill for the libel law wanted being pigeon holed or reported unfsvor ably, although those harlng the putting to death of thete oft repeated bills to secure a Just libel law, sneak away with out haying the manhood to present a reason for turning down the bill of fered. Fuslonist, Populist, Republican and Democrat, alike, in all Legislatures an equally hostile towards the Press of North Carolina In ita attempt to seoure a just libel law. The excuse that the Press is Demo cratic, therefore a Fusion .Legislature would not grant Its request, is now ex ploded, and the Press has to face the fact, that neither party work nor person al oharacter are worth a row of pins, if it seekt to secure legislation for itself in any General Assembly of this State. To seoure any legislation It mutt do Its work before the members of an A sembly are eleoted, and tee to it that no member is elected who will not favor a jutt libel law being enacted in Nortb Carolina. The Press hat had enough of the fawning and promising antl-elecllon politician, who once elected never re members those who boosted him ind office. In the next campaign, having now cleared the State of Its most ob jectionable political features, the Press can go Into the campaign with a little aie of Its own to have ground, Instead of being used as an Instrument to for ward every State Intereat, and being de nied a voice in any legislation it mi) uk for lltelf. And meanwhile let the names of thost who report against the libel bill In tb present legislature be known, and lei tbt Press jive these names the publictt) they well deserve $100 Reward, $100- Th; readers of ibis paper will tx rleeed to learn that there is al least on dreaded dlteate that aclenoe hat beet able to onre In all lu ataces and thtt t Catarrh. A Boston man, In speaking of certain foreign characteristics, told the follow ing story: "A middle aged American couple traveling abroad some years ago called In Home on a sculptor with whom they had been acquainted years before. The visit passed off pleasant ly, but at Its close tbe bost gallantly, but none the less to her surprise and chagrin, kissed tbe lady as be said good by. The sculptor was nu elderly man, but nevertheless It was a liberty, and she was not astonished to bear her husband ejaculate: 'Why, I never heard of such cheek! I've a good mind to go back and tell him what I think of blui!' "After two or three remarks of a similar tenor, In which the note of nn- gcr was rising, tbe wife decided to pour oil on the troubled waters and ko, laying her hand on his arm, said: 'I know, dear, be shouldn't have kissed me, but what does It really matter? What docs n kiss count In n woman of my years? He Is a very old man. aud probably be was following the fashion of the country.' Her husband turned an astonished face. 'Of course I don't mind his kiss ing you,' be raged, 'but.' and bis voire rone, 'It's bis having kissed me that has hurt my feelings!' "Tbe sculptor bad followed the Ital ian custom and kissed both wife and husband." New York Tribune. Veak Hnman ntnre.
