The weather during January here was what may be termed an almost contin ual freeze and the plumbers have reaped the harvest. Perhaps no other place in the state is there more bad plumbing than here and in not a few cases people have been unable to get water for sometimes as much as a week at the time, at a time when they really need it the most. There is no inspec tor of plumbing, strange to say and no supervision at all. A great doal of th pumbing is. done on a summer basis. In the Senate no bills of general importance were introduced except one reducing fares on railways to 21 cents and one better regulating fire insurance and other companies. An amendment was accepted by Watts to modify this, making population ,1000. A further amendment offered pro viding every town authorizing sale oi manufacturing shall keep salaried police officers who shall makedaily inspections and monthly reports, and possession of U. S. License to Bell where sale is pro hibited shall be prima facie evidence of violation of Jaw. Ward said these amendments did not change his bill in any way particular.
