Char ming both in person and 'manner she has during her stay here made a circle and admiring friends. E1 event the Craig home had been lavishly decorated, and the bril liantly lighted porch and lawn where the happy young people spent much of the evening presented a scene altogeth er lovely. As the guests arrived they were met on the front porch by Master James Sloan, Jr., and conducted to the front door where they were greeted by Miss Jennie Lillian Wateon and Miss Lucy .Bogee. - Leaving the reception ball tho guests were shown to the salad room by Miss Hallie Torrance. Mrs. D. M. Jonei presided here, assisted by Mis tea Clara Armstrong and Violet Rankin. The flo wer decorations in this room were alto- tether of rosea. The guests were then shown into the cream and cake room where Miss Birdie Duff presided, as sisted by Misses Susie Hoffman, Nellie Rose Sloan and Maud Rankin. Sweet peat were used with profusion in deco rating the cream and take room. Music for the occasion was furnished by the L. J. On tjet porches and lawn the young people spent a large part of the eve nins- in social converse. From every con ceivable standpoint the event was 1 and delightful on throughout and Maw Watson's guests departed with a deep feeling of oblige tion a her for a moat delightful eve ning. In walking around the streets in the residental districts of the city the many improvements that are being made on their residences by our citizens is very noticeable. The various improvements are not confined wholly to the buildings however but in several cases new fences are being; erected, lawns turfed, and other things being done to make New Bern a "City beautiful." The Bi-Cei tenial is only four weeks distant but when the thousands of visitors who will attend this great event, have come and gone they will say that New Bern is one of the cleanest and most attractive cities in the State. 1 1 4 " 1 r 1 ' THE CONSERVATION OF NAT URE'S RESOURCES.
