Ex periment have shown that there is, at different times, considerable variation, and much trouble in lend suits might be BvoideVl if instruments were sub jected to constant tests. Elizabeth City Falcon: The citizens of Washington, N. C, held a meeting July 29tb, to consider the organization of a stock company for buildingjt hotel at Ocraeoke. Subscriptions were offered amounting to $3,250. A temporary organization was effected by electing 0- F. Warren president, and J. L. Fowle, S. Bridgeman, J. Havens, J. H. Small and C. F. Warren were appointed to select and purchase a site for a hotel and report at stockholders meeting. Mr. Those J. Murden is growing ex cellent hay. Sacred to the memory of Samuel 1?. Street, died at Newbern, N. C, on Thursday, July Cth, A D 137, in the 72d year of his age. To but few men were vouchsafed fo long a life, almost free from sickness, but having a full share of the trials and anxieties of this world alloted to him, as was the subject of this notice. For over fifty years he was engaged in mercantile pursuits and hotel-keep ing, and by his urbanity and kindness of d teposition secured a large numbtr of friends. Mr. Street had raised an unusually large family, and it was in this family ciccle where his good traits of character were most fully exemplified. His love to his wife, to his children, and to their children, was tender; their devotion to him was intense. Followed by a large number of mourners and friends, his remains were taken on Friday afternoon to Christ Church where the services were read by Rev. Mr. Shields; thence to Cedar Grove cemetery. To the bereaved family much sympa thy was exhibited. O. i Newbern, N. C. Cttro en urM.L Jt-DCr tu ctlri l w hen tt.ry w c re . MaLBiei hi K. Ofllee of Old liouiiuloti Meaui.-llip ( o..
