Vice President of the Crsven County Gun Club, whiob appears in this issue, end we assure tbe Club and the members of tbe committee that we intended no re flection whatever upon their work and efforts to secure contributions for the Fair. Mr. Clark makes u ssy what we did not ssy. We did not ssy that the Fair was abandoned by tbe Club "be cause the committee appointed to solicit contributions had not on account of a press of business been able to discharge their duty. " Wbat we did say vu that ''some of the gentlemen appointed on the committee ," &c, and while we may bave been in error as to this being the cause of abandoning the Fair, yet Mr Clark will not aeoj that some of tbe gentlemen on the committee, for tbe reasons which we stated, did not per form their duty and we for one ha?e no fault to find of them or tbe Club for hat they have done in the matter. This little episode U a good illustra lion ss to now newPp.per can get between two fires while trying all tbe time to keep out. Tbe Club for good and sufficient reasons presented to them. tbe chief of which was the failure 01 r.ie ample funds, thinks it better to abandon the effort to bold a Fair, and the announcement is so made in tbe paper, some of the citizens feel ag grieved that eucb an annouuement should be made before they hsd been called upon for a contribution and urge that anoiher effort be made; the paper undertakes to explain to tbeiu that tbey were not called upon because some of the ftentlemen on tbe oomisiitee had not been able to perform the duty as signed mem; then Mr. Clark oomts forward and ss)s it is s gross iajustics to tbe members of tbe committee and Club to say that the Fair was abandoned beeause some of the sentlsmen appointed on tbe corn rah tee could not on aocount of a press of business and b.ing absent from tbe city perform their duty. Such is tbe way of the world. Really there is no cause for any one to feel sggiieved. Tb-re was no in tention on the part of the committee to light any one while soliciting contri butions; tbeir work was divided sys tematically and the trouble was, as we stated, tbst some of them could not aot, though thev are heartily in favor of the Fair And we know that it was our intention to exonerate tbs Club and not do it a gross injustice.
